Shader optimization takes FOREVER
So apparently letting the shader optimization run will decrease loading times. Yay!...except the optimization takes easily twice as long as any loading sequence I've encountered thus far in the game. Is it really worth it?

Edit: No. It is not worth the wait. Especially not when it does it every time I launch the game and doesn't actually seem to have much of an effect on the load times.

Define "forever", it went pretty quickly for me, and after that I haven't seen any load screens cept the initial "start game" one.

What is your CPU? And your RAM?
Carnaxus Jun 27, 2021 @ 8:03pm
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 32GB DDR4 3000 (I think) RAM, EVGA 2080Ti K|ngp|n GPU.

Thats strange the shader optimization only happened for me the first time i ran the game. I waited for it to finish and I have never seen it pop up when I boot the game ever since then.

.....Are you not letting it finish? I started game.. Let it finish.. And has never had to 'optimize' them again.

Shader Optimization takes 20-30 mins for me and it makes my CPU work at 100% (and my GPU work 0%), making it impossible for me to do anything else in the process. If I skip the shader optimization it just does it in the background which slows down my computer entirely.

I've tried pretty much everything I could google to solve this problem, but it just seems to perform this optimization every single time. Yes, I let it finish but nothing seems to be working.

I have an Intel 2600k CPU, a Radeon RX 480 GPU and 16GB RAM. I know it's not the most top tier setup but it shouldn't be required to perform shader optimization every single time.

Great game but man, is it frustrating to start playing.

...I did notice one thing.. It did do the "optimization" again when restarting before the first save point.. (my bad for forgetting that)..

I'm 9 hours in, saved multiple times in several save slots :/

The initial shader compile will take a while, and it's dependent on your CPU, Memory and if on a SSD or HDD. After the first one, future ones should be faster. But, if you're on a 10 year old CPU.... Ya... that would slow things down a lot...
Pathief Jun 28, 2021 @ 7:12am
Honestly they all take the same time. It doesn't decrease at all. I don't mind that it takes long, but why the hell doesn't it cache the results? You shouldn't need to compile the shaders every single time you run the game.

It was to bypass people not able to compile shaders at all due to older hardware. I personally preferred it when was one and done. You can skip the compile, but then have increased load times.
Pathief Jun 28, 2021 @ 7:31am
If it was just increased load times I would be fine with it, but it actually does it in the background while I'm playing the game. The difference is at least 40% CPU usage, probably more.
Komarimaru Jun 28, 2021 @ 8:08am
Aye, that's expected. Like I said, it was due to people with similar CPU's as yourself, stuck at the Compiling Shaders screen before the game would even launch. Now they either compile in the main menu, or as you play.
Roccondil Jun 28, 2021 @ 5:46pm
Yep, I have the same exact CPU as you, with the game placed on an SSD, and the initial run compilation process (as well as after every time I update drivers) has taken about that long (~20 minutes).
mcgeehe Jun 28, 2021 @ 9:39pm
On my Vega56 shader caching takes almost 10 mins, but on my GTX 970 it only takes about 2 mins. It's a strange one.
