Stormbird and Glinhawks respawning after exiting and re-loading game
Im just South of the Sun Steps Tall neck area and Ive just encountered and beaten my first Stormbird and Glinthawks in the area.. greatly helped by the Bandits keeping it occupied (shame i had to kill them.. they were a big help.. lol)..

I saved at the bonfire, both quick save and Manual save, but every time I come back into the game, the Stormbird, Glinthawks and Bandits are all there again

My question is: Is this a bug OR have I just not noticed that all mobs respawn and its only Aloy progress that saves, not the world state OR is it because Im close to the Greatrun hunting ground and you can hunt these mobs (I havent started this hunting lodge quest though)..

Cheers

In my travels through the world of HZD I've noticed that some areas have several variations in what can spawn other areas never vary, in particular quest objectives do not vary.

For example, northeast of Meridian is a Broadhead site that always has three Broadheads, follow the road east and one runs into one of three variations, nothing or two sawtooths and a sawtooth corpse, or just the corpse and three scappers show up as you approach the corpse. A little further along the road occasionally four bandits are hiding in the tall grass along the road. Continue east along the road and one runs into a Trampler site with three or four Tramplers which may or may not have a pair of Watchers with them. In addition a Carja Patrol travels this road, help them with the Broadheads and you can get them in on the fight with the Tramplers, and as if that isn't enough a convoy (a Longlegs and a pair of the cargo machines, if that convoy varies IDK) travels that road. Kill and loot everything, go away, come back and everything has respawned, generally the respawn differs but not always.

One site that varies only occasionally is Two Pond Valley west of Free Heap. Always a pair of Thunderjaws and six Lancehorns, with the occasional wrinkle of two Glinthawks flying in after both of the Thunderjaws have been killed.

So mobs and respawns varie from locale to locale, yeah that kinda makes sense...

I just thought Stormbirds were bosses and some bosses dont respawn, such as the Cauldrons, plus that stormbird is a tough one to beat and with it being airborne, it has a bigger radius to spot you.. so it seems a shame you have to fight it every time in that valley...

HZD is such an amazing open vast game that I dont like to fastravel and miss things as theres always something great to see and do.... But I guess I can make an exception and use the odd Travelpack.. :)

Just as long as its not a bug or a corrupted save game
The two stormbirds that are at the bases of the passes (one below Daytower and the other between Dawn's Sentinel and Free Heap) through the mountain range separating the Carja and Nora lands are the worst positioning. Especially when you first arrive at Daytower with nothing but common and green (and maybe a couple blue) weapons and armors.

It's always a legit tactic...
Reloading respawns everything. There's that spot with 2 thunderjaws and campfire next to them. I used it a lot, kill them both then save and reload. And they're back and ready to be slaughtered again.

Also everything respawns when you are far enough from the area also. Apart from quest things.
Machines respawn only when you load a save. Some bonfires are badly placed on the middle of machines that attack you instantly.

Exactly...

but constant respawn makes it an easy way to become OP.. I killed 4 snapjaws yesterday with simple fire and precision arrows, laying down tripcaster charge traps.. got some nice purples..

I havent completed the story yet, but if your roleplaying, then it works like SkyNet in Terminator... the Cauldrons just keep churning them out to subdue humanity

Play on Ultra Hard and nothing is easy, even a Watcher can one-shot you early game.
Yes, killing machines in an area followed by saving at a nearby campfire and reloading will respawn the area, but so will traveling to a more distant campfire and returning. I've used this to repeatedly kill the two Thunderjaws and six Lancehorns in Two Pond Valley west of Free Heap.
I use the campfires at Free Heap and just northwest of and outside the valley to shuttle back and forth, vendor the loot, and force the respawn. Using the campfire at the east end of the valley comes with some risk as you could find yourself with four circling Glinthawks.

Furthermore, I'll mention that some quest areas have not a single machine or human present if one hasn't met the preconditions for the quest or has yet to add the quest to the quest log. Notable are the three quest areas at which one obtains the last three power cells. I wouldn't believe it either if I hadn't watched a YouTube video ("Get the Power Cells Early" or some such name) in which a player obtained all three of those powercells and not one mob was present at any of the three quest sites. I don't remember but I think he was level 12 after doing all that.

Later I experienced this for myself while searching for a metal flower when I stumbled on the quest location where one joins Sona to kill cutlists and corrupted watchers . Not a single cultist or watcher was present but all the loot was there for the taking. Later I came back, joined up with Sona, the cultists and watchers were present, and we killed them all.
