The Harvest Arrow Tutorial ...

I've done this tutorial many times but always it was shooting the components off of live machines. But they don't have to be live when you shoot off the component as I learned watching an episode of an HZD Walkthrough in which this quest was done. In addition I learned that when the component is shot off a dead machine with a Harvest Arrow it multiplies the loot. The one blaze you get from a Strider becomes six (1 x 6). The four blaze you get from a Grazer becomes twenty-four (4 x 6). The two Metal Vessels and two Chillwater you get from a Lancehorn become twelve (2 x 6) of each. One can also shoot off the horns of a dead Lancehorn, each horn being worth six metal shards.

In the process of harvesting Blaze from Striders I got a lesson in anatomy. I did not know that the Blaze canister on a Strider has an armor cover which has to come off first (presumably using a Harvest Arrow for this is best) before shooting off the Blaze canister.

Similarly the Blaze canister of a Sawtooth can be harvested by first shooting off the armor plate protecting it and then shooting the canister. In this case the shot off canister is worth nine Blaze.

Whether it is measured in crafting materials for ammo or in shards at retail Harvesting components this way is a substantial increase in loot.
