You can fast travel to a camp fire if you need to save quickly. Just use the map.

You can only save manually using a campfire, but the game has autosave points at critical stages in any quest.

hi guys i am beggining to get to groips with how it saves .... either camp fires on completed missions but it does seem odd that if you DONT save you dont continue from where you were the last time you used it.

your sentence is odd, if you dont save b4 you quit how would the game know were you left ?
what is odd about HZD save system is soooo few save slots in the manual save file its not even 10 deep.

I'm not entirely sure how the quest and vantage based save points work precisely, but as best as I can tell, if you die, the game loads the most recent save of whatever type exists in storage.

Unfortunately this can lead to some cases where if you want to re-trigger critical dialog or other such, you might need to roll back to a manual save point or far enough back in the quest-based save points that you'll end up refighting battles or such.

I think the campfire manual saves work well. Aloy can head towards campfires and most are in 'camps', villages, cities, etc.
I only rely on auto saves during quests. Which also works well as it only send you back to the last checkpoint in the quest.

I never use the manual save system except at the very end of the game. First off the game autosaves almost continuously when you are on a scripted mission, secondly--and more importantly--there's a HUGE number of "quicksave" slots. Unlike in most games, there isn't just the one, so if you do a regular quicksave and it turns out not to be optimal, you can go back several others before it.

Just checked my saves in the Documents folder, and it looks like there's ten slots apiece for autosave, manual save and quicksave for both a regular game and a NG+.

So don't worry so much, use more quicksaves! :-)

New player here - how do you make a qucksave, again? I'm sure I saw it at some point but I can't find it again now.
Also, can you quit, and reload from a quicksave when launching?

hi xenaphobia ... i now have tons of lit fires and can fast travel all over the place , i finished the main quest and when i have done all side quests i am going to do it again
Using a game controller, how do you invoke a quicksave, please?

OK - thanks google - so now I realise the quicksave is also only available at the camp fires. Not what I'm used to on a separate F key with another to load from quicksave, for instance. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get used to it.
