i don't ever use melee in horizon on ultra hard unless im forced to like crammed in a cauldron or something were movement is limited. its better to pick apart enemies from a distance using the precision shot bow. you can have a ropecaster as well on you so when they charge/rush u can pin them down to either re-position (it interrupts animation from machines even when charging or jumping) or finish them with a critical strike (u can use sticky bombs to while their pinned as well but that's resource intensive).
using this tactic using stealth armor is the best cause enemies will lose you or wont be able to locate you after you initial engagement from distance allowing you to get 2/3 volleys off before the fight starts. once you get better mods and weapons you can pretty much kill anything with a couple volleys of three stack arrows. just some tips
Just sayin;. :-)
This is total nonsense. The Ancient Armor is a game-changer since it constantly absorbs hits for you. Who cares if it "broke from a single attack?" That's an attack that would normally take a 1/3 to 1/2 of your lifebar and you took no damage thanks to the shield. And then the thing regenerates within 10-15 seconds and you can absorb another hit. I almost never had to heal on UH thanks to this thing.
This is huge in UH and there's no reason to use any other armor. Sorry, bro, but you need to test out that armor some more since there's nothing better in UH.
Useful to know^
So the shield weave armour is more status symbol, just useful as part of collection.
Not at all useful to know since that's his knee-jerk reaction while not understanding how much it's helping. Ancient Armor is very helpful.

For small enemies, using the heavy hit to knock over enemies (which leads to a critical stab) is very easy way to take things out. For larger stuff like Sawtooth, two heavy hits will tip one over...you can then easily blow up its cannisters or, even better, override the thing while it's stunned. I'd agree ranged is the best but melee has great uses...stunning enemies to override them being the best.
Aloy does have a Focus.... :P
Curiously, EVERY SINGLE CELL is in a Metal Ruin. Not in a Cauldron, not lying around - in a ruin of the metal world (or a part of one).
It helps to explore every nook and cranny in the ruins. The trickiest one is probably at Maker's End, where I would give this hint: This particular ruin is unique by its shape, so follow that shape to its 'logical conclusion' to find it.
And we should remember that the builder of that ruin *looooved* to be in high places.
That does not seem possible, but it does not matter now. Have a great time in the world of Horizon!
