Horizon Zero Dawn™ Complete Edition

Horizon Zero Dawn™ Complete Edition

Hey how handy do you guys find mounts?
Like, is having a mount to fight beside you something that some people will swear by? Because I've not done anything with them yet and was wondering if there are people out there who'd be like, "Oh my God man you have to get a mount, it'll make the game so much better!"
Does anyone swear by mounts, or are they just kind of nice for getting around?

If ppl think that Roach was a bad mount to control ...
Oh boy they will have a blast playing with HZD's mounts !!!
I like to move around with full stealth outfit or fast travel.
As for fight companion i prefer to override.
I think part of the issue is simply that Aloy has a lot more animations to her which allows her to jump and move over rocks and terrain; the four legged machines dn't have as many so their ai pathfinding system compensates; however human riders can't compensate so we run into the barriers its not "built for" more easily. They are really, when ridden, best designed for open roads and getting from A to B in world.

It's one area that would be great to see expand in general in games. Of course one part is actually having engines that show bigger and bigger areas so that you can have open fields to run across. Right now dense terrain is fun to walk through and you get places fast, but it can mean on horseback (or machine back) you end up running into obsticles too fast .
The game world is too small for mounts to be useful. By this of course I mean there are simply too many obstacles everywhere whether it be aggressive mobs, steep terrain, cliffs, water, etc.
Mounts are fast enough to avoid nearly any aggressive machine. I like to place my mount at my “oh #%#%!” escape point when attacking difficult targets.

Mounted archery is hard, but with a few nudges left and right you can endlessly circle and shoot most machines with little risk of reprisal.

Mounts make navigating nervous machines easier. It feel like it lowers their startle radius and a nudge faster quickly moves you out of the startle zone.

Having a higher point of view improves visibility and generally is an advantage over smaller targets, eg more crits from above, more lines of sight when you can peek over obstacles.

And of course, Aloy cannot beat the pure speed of the mount on most terrains. It has a higher step height and if you know the angles to look for, it is easy to path through obstacles with minimal loss of speed. I believe mounts can also walk through many bodies of water that Aloy would otherwise have to swim through.

I really enjoy the feel of leisurely strolling with on a mount. It feels relaxing, like Aloy can rest a little and take in the scenery. I also like the feeling of switching between travel mode and on foot combat mode. The comments you get from NPCs are pretty good too.

I like the mount feature and I also like the "call for a mount"-skill. But it's not like a mount can beat a Sabertooth or bigger in combat on its own.

However, it can be a life saver. If you mount gets killed or if you kill your mount on your own, you won't get the materials of a called mount. But you get the EXP for it, even though that doesn't matter much later on. Even if you kill a mount by yourself, you can call for a new one, which is good, cause you can replace damaged mounts that way.

And like I mentioned, it won't kill a Sabertooth by itself, but it can stun it for some seconds with his kicks or ram/rush-attacks. It can get you out of an dangerous situation. You can even use it as decoy on other groups of "mount"-type enemies.

Traveling by mount is faster on shorter ranges and through water. But it's true that it doesn't matter on travels between camp fires. If you already have that calling skill, then this doesn't matter, but normally I guess you'll unlock this skill pretty late, cause it's not the most important skill in the skill-tree for being unlocked.

Aside from that I also think, that they should disable the "premium traveling kit". It was complete crap to implement such a feature into the game. Generally I'm against fast traveling-features, but if they implement it, it should cost the player a fortune. The regular traveling kids are already too cheap in my opinion, but implementing a premium traveling kit later on sooo cheap only benefits all that D.UMBASSES who rush through the storyline, who don't really appreciate a game with open world. Hope, they correct this on the sequel.
