Highly recommend switching from borderless to fullscreen
Since the game launched, I was having really bad stuttering and frame drops despite being on all of the lowest settings possible. Didn't matter where I was or what I was doing, I'd drop from 60 to 30-40 fps every 30 seconds or so. I stopped playing the game for a while, although I had confirmed it was still happening on patch 1.04. I'm running an i5-7600k (old I know, but it's overclocked to 5GHZ) and a 2060 super.

I finally decided the other day to boot up the game and try out some different settings. For some reason I had never tried to switch from borderless to fullscreen before, mainly because it's never changed my performance that much in other games. This time though, it solved my problem completely. I now hold a very solid 60fps, even with some settings turned up to high. It seems to have reduced the CPU usage of the game enough to stop it from maxing out my CPU. Even in Meridian I barely drop below 55.

This isn't meant to be a "stop complaining, just change this setting and it should fix all your problems" post, just a recommendation of something people should try out. This is a seriously fun game and I hope everyone's performance problems are fixed so they can enjoy it as much as I am now.

While Fullscreen in DX12 is actually a proprietary version of borderless fullscreen, it still functions in the same way as traditional Fullscreen, in that it will often increase performance as system resources are prioritized to it.

Same results here and wanted to comment on this discussion. I had been running Borderless. Was in the Forge of Winter map and my frame rates were miserably dropping below 30. I tried everything to improve, nothing helped. I tried switching to FULLSCREEN not thinking it would make any difference but MAN it SOLVED my problem. In the Kill the Fireclaw battle was where I made the change, and it made a HUGE difference. I was able to maintain 60 verses randomly dropping below 30.

This setting really is a deal breaker for this game. I had no idea.

If a game has these options you should always try both and see which one works better.

I learned that lesson with this game.
