Facing my nemesis again...
I was about to collect all the unique weapon / armor modifications from Frozen Wilds:
https://horizon.fandom.com/wiki/Modifications#Unique_Modifications

So I got all except of 2. Which are sitting behind the hunting trails and some specific hunting challenge of Ikrie.

Currently trying to achieve all gold again, but it's not really easier on PC.

I've achieved gold rank on the Control Trial, by using this guide:

I think it's the same vid I used back these days for my PS4 playthrough.
It's a pretty good tactic to get it done.

I'll continue with the Onslaught Trial today.

But even though some of the base game hunting trials can be a bit harsh, Frozen Wilds' trials topped it for sure. oO

That being said, I was never hugely frustrated by them. I ended up treating them like Soulsborne boss fights: whenever I had trouble with a trial, I took a break for a while, came back and usually beat it with another try or two. Or three.

But yes, the Frozen Wilds Hunter Trials are definitely the hardest part of the game.

The last frozen wilds trial was insanely hard. I did it after about 2 hours of attempts. The log piles were really good at taking out the scorchers, and the frostclaws at the end were made easier wth the 1 log pile and explosive tripwires.

Yeah, I probably will check some Youtube vids again to get a grip.
I've did the same on my PS4 version but still had to do a lot of tries to get it on gold. oO

That's not like riding a bicycle. ^^

I can relate to that pretty much. ^^
My break was about half a year until I continued playing and finally finishing the PS4 version (did the DLC before finalizing the main game). XD

I haven't tried those trials in Frozen Wilds... I just made few missions but not this yet.

I maxed all hunting trials in Vanilla, and the most pain in the ass, were those time limits in some of them!!! As with all my toys they were not hard by themselves...

Yeah just when I thought the insanely tight time constraints of post patch stealth trials were bad, they throw this sh*t in.

Another good vid that showcases all trials as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDyaZINzzU8&t=106s

Alrighty... My nervs are done.
As is the Onslaught Trial on gold.

I used a combination of precision arrows against the regular machines shooting off their precious parts, and the ice rattler in combination with sticky bombs against the Ravager at the end.

I got through the Onslaught trial with lots and lots of blast bombs.

For the Chieftain trial I cheated and lowered the difficulty to Story because ♥♥♥♥ it.

I am on NG+ ultra hard, so I cannot change the difficulty. ^^

Furthermore, I recommend to use Sticky Bombs as they do more damage than Blast Bombs. ;)
Ah well... On Story I think it doesn't matter.
But on ultahard Sticky Bombs do 105 base damage and Blast Bombs just 70.

I couldn't sleep yesterday that well, so I got up in the night just to finish the Chieftain Trial and Irkie's Challenge.

And I've to say, the Chieftain Trial was ridiculously easy compared to the Onslaught.
You have a lot more time and when using the tree log traps you deal massive damage (killing the two Scorchers upon start with ease).

Irkie's Challenge was interesting, but as the final enemy can be killed with the 2 log traps, it's either pretty easy when all arrows are used properly. :)

This is my third run for the unique weapon and armor mods. Soon only these will be applied to my gear. XD
Even though some of them are pretty useless compared to other mods that are a bit better regarding the speciality they raise.

I haven't even bothered with the trials. I absolutely hate when developers think that a players skill should be tested and only the highest skilled players should be rewarded. I also don't want to do the same stupid boring ♥♥♥♥ 8,000,000 times just to hit the completely arbitrary and unfair score set by the devs.

They aren't that bad with the high-end stuff. The control trial was the hardest for me as I never used the Stormslinger before. Onslaught was literally spamming slinger bombs and the only difficult part of the chieftain trial are the two Scorchers. Ikrie's challenge is easy once you realize that you don't have to use your arrows for the last kill.

They can be killed by the tree log trap. First Scorcher is standing directly in range the second trap has to be timed when the Scorcher is moving into range.
Even if one of them survives, there are not much HP left on it.

Therefore the Chieftain Trial was weirdly the easiest for me.
Control is the middle one and
Onslaught was the most difficult one, especially of having to face a Ravager at the end when there is not much time left.
I finished Onslaught with 3:29 of 3:30. XD

Fair enough. I didn't bother with any of the Hunter Trials on NG+ Ultra Hard. I just blitzed the main quest to get the achievements and called it a day.
Just Chill Sep 9, 2020 @ 10:54am
That's fine.
You get all the unique items (Frozen Wilds modifications behind Gold on Ikrie's Challenge and Hunting Trial, Adept Lodge Weapons behind Gold on all base game Hunting Trials), even on lower difficult.
It's just benefical to play NG+ ultrahard if you want to unlock all face paints and focus colors.
