Purple mod farming
I just thought I should share this. Purple mods hadn't been appearing in my game as much as I would have liked until I hit upon a farming spot that is reaping rewards. Basically, I fast travel there for a few runs every play session, and then get back to exploring.

It's the area that the 6yo Aloy visits during Lessons of the Wild where she leads the injured boy to safety. There are four Scrappers to Silent Strike kill before you loot the two debris piles which will always contain one or more mods. Fast travel to the campfire nearby and repeat.

Early in the game when you're limited to The Embrace you might get just greens, but as your level increases, the regularity of blues and purples increases as well. At level 19 I've just done three trips for four purple mods plus an assortment of greens.

41% Tear and 14% Freeze
40% Fire
57% Handling
27% Resist Fire
39% Freeze and 10% Tear

I haven't found another spot like this one yet.

You could also just fast travel between areas where thunderjaws, behemoths or stormbirds spawn as they're guaranteed to drop purples.

Saving and loading should do the trick as well, and it saves the use of fast travel items.

You know there's an infinite one, right? Just takes a fox pelt and a few other things and you never have to craft those stupid things again.

They sound ominous. I'm playing on "Very Hard" difficulty, and currently approaching the second corrupted zone west of Mothers Crown.

They're all pretty big threats, but all are pretty easy once you figure out a good method to fight them.

I don't use fast travel in games... so no, I did not know.

I'm sure it's not the 'best' spot available but I've been having an easy time farming mods at a Behemoth ground near the northwest corner of the map. There's two Behemoths and two longlegs there but early on, even on Ultra Hard, two corruptor arrows to an unarmored section should turn one of the Behemoths and then you basically just have to wait until they finish fighting themselves (occasionally using another two arrows to re-corrupt when needed) to collect your mods.

And yes, once you have better equipment and are confident you can take down any machine in the game without incident, there are faster ways to get mods but until then, this area is pretty quick, safe, and low-effort for early-mid game farming.

Thunderjaws, Stormbirds, Fire Claws, Rock Breakers and Behemoths are in general a good go to find VR mods. Adding to that the special rewards that can be found within the Frozen Wilds expansion, which are second to none.

But yes, the Scrapper area within the ambrace can give you a nice headstart.

By the time your killing those three you should have bought the unlimted fast travel item by then.

Walking simulator FTW. :awkward:

If you don't care about exploiting glitches when it comes to farming, hands down the most efficient way is from the 3 behemoths that drop guaranteed 2 purple mods each during the "Hammer and Steel" quest. Important thing is do not turn in that quest. After you loot them, either fast travel out of the area and back or run a distance away (you'll have to find out what that is by experimenting) and run back... the behemoths will still be dead but you'll find that the loot reloaded with brand new purple mods. The 2 shell-walkers will also reload and sometimes drop a purple.

On top of that, you can farm for wires, echo shells, and chill waters and 100+ shards on each behemoth without ever to have to re-kill them.

Just don't turn in that quest and you can continue to reap new mods, shards, and resources indefinitely.
