Audio issues, One sided audio
I'm having some issues with the position of the audio. It's not centered or accurate. Anyone else having this issue ?

No, you aren't.
For me, it's just slightly more pronounced on the right side.
Windows is set to stereo and the game is recognizing it as stereo.
If I'd hazard a guess, it seems to do a improper stereo downmix on a surround signal which causes a channel imbalance.

Horizon always had weird sound mixing during cutscenes, is this effecting general gameplay as well?

Make sure your windows in sound control panel or whatever onboard sound card you use (Most time its Realtek) is using Stereo sound.. Not 5.1. Some say switching to 7.1 has fixed the issue.

But yes compared to PS4 version. PC version of sound is ALL over the place. some time voice too high, Music too high, other times it too low or hard to hear.

Other have also said switch to 48000 kz may also help too.

Right click Sound icon on task tray for win10 -> speaker setup -> Advanced setup
whatever device you're using, click as default (Speakers/TV/USB/HDMI)

click advance tab.. Try changing to 48000 hz (DVD quality) 16 or 24bit.
hope that helps some.

may also need set to 2 speakers,

But if you have 2.1 system , you cant set audio config to stereo because you lose subwoofer channel....

For me, there are sounds playing where they should not be. Example: I see a few bandits and kill them from a distance. When I walk up to loot them, I hear them talking from before the fight. Very odd because I keep thinking I missed some or something, but it is just phantom/ghost sounds lingering in thin air.

Ya your right.. Though I've been mostly playing atm with headphones.. You are right.. I don't think my Subwoofer is play any sounds.. I have 5.1 sound speaker setup (Logitech speakers kit)

PS4 HZD sounds soo much better when playing from either headphones/tv speakers or 5.1+ or better sound system.. I <3 Soundtrack for HZD :)

Such a shame. I was really looking forward to playing this game on PC....

Can't hear the audio datalog things at all... Hear things great when they're behind me, especially people talking. Forward sound gets quieter then anything in the centre is mute. Tired all sorts of settings but nothing is helping whatsoever.

So distracting it's made the game unplayable for me. :(

I have been playing this game through my wireless headset (G933) and did not have any audio issues. I switch back to my desktop stereo 2.1 and noticed this issue. The game audio problem is not there when using headphones but with stereo it becomes apparent.

Ya the audio quality of the pc port is horrible imo. I've played the game to death on my ps4 (1 with out DLC/at least 2-3 times with DLC) and I did notice PC port sound quality isn't as good vs PS4 version. I suspect prob cuz they using crappy Bloated DX12 imo. Hopefully they get fixed in future update. I haven't play the game on pc in few months.. So I don't know if any better or not. Here is proof ppl of what happens when game isn't done correctly (ported correctly) when it uses Microsoft bloated DirectX api.

I had this issue and it was resolved when I installed direct x (June 2010 I think), I am on a new computer and I probably never had it installed, the game should autoinstall it its probably a mistake with the port. if you google around and reinstall direct x it should resolve your issue. I hope.

Okay, got it to work. I'm using the audio jack from my monitor. I went into sound settings on Windows -> Device Properties -> Spatial Sound Format -> and turned on Windows Sonic for Headphones. Good luck! This ♥♥♥♥ is ridiculous, especially for such a good game.

Here's a quick video of how to make the changes:

still works in 2024, nice. My xm4's where only picking up half of the dialogue and the other sounds where annoyingly loud making me almost stop my replay but after looking up "spatial sound Windows 11" to find it on my rig and turning it on I can finally replay one of my favorite games correctly. Thanks for the vid, super helpful.
