Missed shots from bow
I've noticed either I miss shots where the arrows just seem to go at a different angle than where I'm pointing (regardless if I'm standing still) or on some rare times will go through enemies.

Was doing Ikrie Side quest and it's becoming more and more noticeable
Also found this on a Reddit post as from when it was on PS4 as well from 3 years ago

I've noticed this as well. Reminds me of "aim assist" in Skyrim that helped me miss more often than I hit something. Maybe it's a matter of disabling something similar in HZD..

Yeah, I've noticed moments where the aim assist will track the machine but then the machine moves suddenly in a different angle and the arrow misses. And there are other times when the aim assist will target something on the machine but not the part that I was aiming for. If it's an issue on PS4 then they probably thought it was not a thing important enough to tweak. That or someone at Guerilla focused a bunch of time on fixing it (maybe their "special project" of the month) but finally said "To heck with this it assists/hits properly 90% of the time the players will just have to deal with that 10% I ain't touching this no more I am completely sick of this..."

Going through enemies may be a framerate/collision detection issue, where the arrows and machine happen to update position in such a way that it looks like the arrow passes through: like the arrow will "jump" or update its position a meter every frame but the machine part will exist fully within that "jump" distance, so the arrow will seem to teleport or pass through through the machine. Simplifying but possibly the cause?

I have aim assist off, and it still does it. Sometimes the shot goes way left, way right, even up or down, and some shots go right through enemies. When I finished this on the PS4, I do not remember it happening as much as it happens on the PC. I am going about 100 +/- fps, so it could have something to do with it, considering the other issues when running that frame rate.

I have aim assist off and I have been experiencing this as well. I thought it might be a game mechanic - random arrow quality or fletching. It seems to happen randomly but not to frequent to be frustrating, at least for me anyway.

is it with a specific bow? I find this happens with the war bow, not with my sharpshot bow ... but I also found that adding Handling modifications helped.

Maybe it's the handling mods, since I haven't really messed with those much.

It happens with all bows for me: sharpshot, war bow, and another one I can't recall the name of at the moment. Arrows will just randomly fly off target. But, I've also not had this problem until just recently it seems. Earlier in the game, things were hit that I aimed for, and I haven't really done anything other than acquire a new type of bow of the same ones. Went from the "default" version to a Carja version? I think. But it's happening on all of them now.

Will check out the handling mod idea tomorrow, maybe. Thanks for the idea.
I have aim assist OFF and I experienced this as well. Latency? Hit box? A game mechanic with "handling" and % chance? I don't know.

I have noticed this with several bows, arrow types, and different enemies beast and humanoid.

I'd say it's a mix of poor hitboxes and poor TPS implementation, not much we can do about it. But yes, shots will sometimes go through enemies

Did you shoot too fast? You let go of the arrow before you fully pull the bow?
Roccondil 26 Thg08, 2020 @ 11:09pm
RIGHT handling makes a ton of sense! I should add handling mods to low-handling bows, see if shots are more accurate/hit more often. Kind of the type of thing that is easily forgotten when the main concern is the damage output, especially the status effects.

Handling deals with speed, rate of fire, reload time, etc. Not the flight of an arrow. This comes from the strategy guide.

I do think it's handling, but I also think the type of bow comes into it. My Banuk Powershot bow, fully charged (which takes ages, it's one of the bluegleam weapons from the Cut) and with only modest handling, basically never misses... when fully charged. If I release it while still drawing back - before the circle has completely narrowed - the arrow could go anywhere in that circle. But as long as I wait, it's superb; I use it to snipe bandits, and it's one-shot death for almost any of them.

On the other hand, my Shadow War Bow (non-bluegleam) is very inaccurate, even though the handling stat shows as higher in the inventory - I have to take special care to aim each shot with it. Adding handling mods did seem to help, but the more of them I add the more I'm sacrificing elemental payload. Maybe the bluegleam version of this weapon will perform better - the super long draw time on the Banuk bluegleam bows means they're only really useful as sniper weapons anyway - but I'm a long way from getting enough bluegleam to afford it.

Even when using a sling, my shots are so far off sometimes, but the directional indicator was right on top of the thunderjaw. Or I know I missed, and it hits the target anyway. Human enemies with the sling, you cannot hit them directly, goes right through them. I always have to aim at their feet.

Ah ok, interesting. Maybe it's just the type/class of bow, then - I definitely notice an accuracy difference between the Banuk Powershot and the Shadow War Bow.

There is a difference in equipment (flavor text and the guide). The Sharpshot bow uses "Precision Arrow" longer distance, higher damage, cost more resources per arrow. And the Hunter Bow uses "Hunter Arrow" standard distance, standard damage, less resources. Thing is, I finished this game on the PS4, and it never behaved like this.
