Am I doing something wrong with controller?
So I'm not really a console player first off. So controller feels kind of awkward for me. However I chose to use an Xbox One controller because KB+M causes Aloy to drift and your camera will often be far to one side or the other. That being said, I have a heck of a time controlling the camera with the controller. I feel as if I'm dragging the camera into the ground often (particularly when running up a hill) and it's not exactly the smoothest (turn, stop, turn, stop). I also feel like I can't get the greatest view cause the camera feels very close to Aloy pretty often. Trying to get precise shots with the bow is difficult but doable. Do I just REALLY suck? Is this just related to this game? Or is this just a controller thing in general?

If you're in town your camera will be really close indeed but if you go explore the fov is considerably higher even at 70

Getting used to controler is a pain, you just need more time and practice. You can increase the field of distance option in the display options, it might help with close camera. If you are keep looking down accidently maybe changeing the Y axis to inverted might help, normal Y axis always feels weird to me.

I use a XB360 controller. When i circle the camera view to the right side Aloy goes also to the right side, sometimes in the middle. If that happens i let her pull out the bow short. Than she goes back to the left side of the screen. Over time it nervs a bit, but better than crashes i haven't :)

Try jumping in combat a LOT, your accuracy will improve as it will go in slow motion. I'm using a PS4 controller and found it to be much better than the Xbox 1 pad. You could of course invert your controls.

The only issues i have with either are - the delay between aiming with the bow, firing, then accidentally striking with sword instead of firing with bow again..very annoying. Using focus ignores sensitivity settings making turning slow and zooms right in, which makes me nauseous.

Learn to "use your feet" to aim .... Get it roughly at the level you want with the right stick and then move in and out, left and right with the left stick to line up your shots ..... It not only gives you better precision it makes you a harder target to hit ...... Also tag your targets and use that to your advantage by running behind something target your NPC and then dart out and back again or if on a cliff or platform above move forward shoot and move back .... It takes a little practice but once you get it down it's very effective

I don't have it up yet but I should by tonight but go to my playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkdqp16ufvSlraVqdDoN8aK58dxCH308H
and look for Part 11 and start at 10:30 into the video which is the battle during The Proving and you can see how I do it ...... I use a similar technique with Watchers to get "eye shots" ..... If you watch some of the other videos (non-monetized) you can see I'm pretty aggressive and hunt anything and everything every chance I get

I play a lot of games with PAD (I just finished Death Stranding 😉 ), but with lot of shooting like in HZD, I play K&M. Yes, she has problems with straight forward direction... But I just move a mouse a bit 😛
And hell, I am jumping during fight like a rubber ball 😈

For me it is a small problem with the sensibility setting. You can't set half faster, only full.

I have played "Remnant-From the Ashes" with controller. Primary you shoot with weapons in this game and shooting works perfect for me. Done much head shots without problems.

Using Controller usually automatically switch on Aim Assist (kinda aimbot...), that's why you could do many headshots...

Playing Mouse is more fair and actually not much easier often...

The "aim assist" in HZD is the most egregious I've ever seen. It's really only useful for hitting far away human targets in the dark when you can barely see them.

For hitting weakpoints it's actually a hindrance. Many times I've seen my arrows literally curve away from where I was aiming to hit a random armor plate or just the main body.

I've played many, many shooters on console, and most of the time that whole "aim assist" crap is a myth. Your shots hit where your reticle is...it's not an auto-headshot feature like PC players would like to believe.

Some games actually do the subtle tracking or minor adjustment for you from certain distance. In this game however, it's not slowing down your crosshair when you sweep across the target or track it. but the arrow is like homing missiles, sometimes you don't even need to lead the arrow and it will still hit the target regardless.

i think it's similar to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BpS-ATB69Y

minus the tracking or slowing down
