Crashing fixed by setting fps limit to 30?
Title says it , after setting the fps limit to 30fps i haven't experienced a random crash yet. Before it crashed randomly.

Its a bit of a bother, 30fps is meh. I see it isn't smooth. But i'm also tired of losing progress because of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ saving system.

Yeah, stability seems to scale inversely with frame rate.

Locking it in 30 fps has completely gotten rid of crashes for me. I've had multiple 2-3 hours sessions with no crashes. I tried to bump up the framerate after a week of no crashes and it crashed after 20 minutes.

I'm not having any crashes but just for the heck of it changed it to 30fps and the game still looks fine, no big deal really.

Yes, fixed it for me, too.

Seems like a lazy port, honestly.

If you want a better looking frame rate limitation, use RTSS (Riva Tuner Statistics Server) to accomplish that. RTSS tries to keep the frametime constant as much as possible, leading to much less "stuttering".

Here is a video about that:

As a consolation prize for the loss of framerate you can try using DSR, which is far superior to mere antialiasing.

And this right here is the issue with console exclusivity. I'd wager the game was never designed to run over 30, even on hardware that can handle it ad 60+.

This fix doesn't fix the crashes but they may happen slightly less often. IDK they're random for me. They happen about once every hour or so. I have over 30 hours into the game and have crashed at least 30 times. It's frustrating. Potential fixes I've tried:

- Turning off all overlays. (Steam, Xbox, Nvidia)

- Limiting frames to 30

- Third party patch called HZD fixed memory allocator ver 1.1

- Turning graphics setting down and various graphics features on and off.

- moving the game to my fastest SSD. (Which got rid of stuttering.)

- DDU and reinstall video drivers with NVClean to only install video driver, PhysX and HDMI audio. (No telemetry or geforce experience.)

The third party patch gives more detailed crash information and it's always GPU related for me. Now, I'm a gamer and I have thirty or forty AAA games installed at any given time. There's nothing wrong with my rig. This game just wasn't ready for release.

I should say I don't have the windows 10 2004 update due to an unknown compatibility problem I'm waiting on. But I've tried everything else. However, I used nvidia's control panel to limit the fps. I'l try rtss. However, that's an overlay.

Edit: I also didn't try the High DPI fix. Trying that now.

Seems like a disappointing compromise. I was eager to play on some higher framerates. For whatever reasons, it also seems to crash during dialogue cut scenes. Now I just deal with it as it seems to autosave often that I don't lose too much progress.
I will try the 30fps limit to see how well it works for me.

So basically underclocking. Have ya'll like checked to see if your PC have sufficient power going through it? Is it a balanced system? You shouldn't have to deal with these things if you have a well maintained PC.

Tried it in RTSS and with the high dpi fix. No go. The third party memory leak fix enhanced debug gave me this on the latest crash:

That's... not what underclocking is.

850 watts power supply (Corsair HX850i) for a 3700X and a 2070 Super should be more than enough (bought it because this machine is "temporary" hardware until 4950X + 3090 are available).

Also this machine is in perfect order and I can confirm that for me the game is ROCK SOLID @ 30 fps but crashes every 5-10 minutes @ 60 fps.
Demesis Aug 22, 2020 @ 4:04pm
I suspect there's more to the crashes than simply the fps. Limiting it might help address one part of the problem, but there seems to be various unknown "triggers" that's causing these crashes.

I've been running the game above 30 fps without much issues AFTER making some weird tweaks here and there. Before patch 1.02, it was simply disabling the steam overlay that stopped all crashes. Was able to play for over 60 hours without a single crash. After patch 1.02 however, the crashes came back. I then came across another strange solution, which was to set "reflections" to low (apparently, it might cause crashes in certain areas), and that seemed to have stopped the crashes for now (crossing my fingers it holds).

It seems like the optimization is a bit of a mess at the moment. I just hope the devs will be able to fix all these issues soon, because aside from the technical issues, the game is pretty decent.
shezzor Aug 22, 2020 @ 4:24pm
The crashing is obviously tied to its memory usage. For whatever solution they are using to load in and/or swap out assets is causing it to run out of memory or just plain buffer overruns.

I play AAA games all the time mostly in 2k or 4k. It's not my pc and this fix doesn't fix anything for me. Last game I played was Detroit Become Human (another ps4 port, but one that works fine.) Before that was Red Dead Redemption 2. Before that was Rise of the Tomb Raider. Before that was Final Fantasy XV All of these played fine.

My system also passes Time Spy Extreme Stress Test.

It passes Valley and Superstition just fine.

On the cpu side, it passes all stress tests that I throw at it. It runs Geek Bench 5 just fine. Also, Real bench 8 hours stress test runs just fine. OCCT, Prime95. It's rock solid.

It's the port. Blaming our PCs is just a weird reaction when there's been hundreds of posts from hundreds of users about crashes. They can't all have problems due to poorly maintained PCs.

Edit: I forgot Assassin Creed Odyssey and Far Cry New Dawn were after Detroit Become Human.
