Reason to detach machines' components?
Hello,

I'm a beginner and don't understand what's the purpose of detaching a machine's componants.

Let's say I hunt one of these early machines, with 4 glowing tubes on their back.
If I use a sniper bow with an arrow dedicated to detaching components, I'll detach it for sure, but deal less damage than with a classic arrow.
And wether I detach it or not, I'll grab all the components after killing the machine.

So I see no use in detaching components, except wasting special arrows.
Can someone please enlighten me?

Thanks a lot in advance and happy hunting :)

Some machines if you detachment certain components loses their ability to hurt you using long distance attacks. detaching some components make it easier to see their weak points and expolit them for more damage.

Detaching also makes it more likely to get those components that you detach.

Thanks for the precisions.
Have a great day.
detaching components is essential for crippling machines. There's even arrows which entirely purpose is to nuke components instead of doing damage.
Destroying components makes machines more vulnerable to damage, staggers them and almost always nullifies their weaponry, forcing them to clumsily charge at you with just melee attacks.
destroying their respective canisters for example, can outright destroy them once it blows up, and in some cases it stuns them for so long that you have ample time to go for the killing blow with your spear.

For the canisters on the robots back, get the skill that has a better chance to knock off parts with light attacks. Then melee / silent attack small to medium sized robots to death. After it's down, you are given some time to start knocking off parts from the dead robot with light attacks. If you wait too long, the canisters disappear from the robot.

I found easier than aiming at a mobile robot.

beside all aforementioned advantages, you also get some xp when removing components.

There is also something just... fun about knocking the gun off of a ravager and using it to kill that same ravager.

The harvester arrows on better bows give you more of the resource when you shoot them off using them.

For example.

Those canisters.
Just looting the enemy gives you 1 per canister, while shooting them off with harvesting arrows gives you 6 per canister.
