Well true that, now it is tracking the progress. But even so not always. Pretty inconsistent if you ask me. :(
Of course the game never tells us to do that so all of us had the same discovery period where we didn't get credit for one and then looked it up online. Once you find out, it's not a big deal since you can activate them any time but it's a strange choice when no other quest types work that way.
So for example, if you need to shock 3 enemies weak to shock damage, it will never finish if you don't have it selected. but if you have it selected it will say 0/3. but it might complete after shocking only 1 machine, as if it internally tracked the first 2 times you shocked enemies without it being tracked, but didn't update the counter on the quest.
