Disk Write Error in Download
I bought this back the night before it went live and put it up for preload overnight. Woke up to see that it had finished the download, but that the install or unpacking failed to complete. Had to go and download it again to where it starts with about 8GB already done. However, after a spotty start I always hit a wall where the game tells me that I have a disk write error that stops the download. The disk write error that I'm getting is always put as
Steam\steamapps\downloading\1151640\Digital Art Book\HZD_DigitalArtBook.pdf

Is anyone else getting this from their download and has anyone found a way to fix this? I love the game and would love to play it from steam, but I can't if this can't get fixed.

Not yet sure if it fixes mine, but I was able to progress my download for now. I'm referring to my Witcher 3 right now. What I found from some person here is to disable the "file shield" or core shield for that matter in my Avast anti-virus

Restart your PC.

Yeah I use Avast too and disabling all shields until the download finished worked like a charm.

I had Avast software installed a year or two ago, but I had to get rid of it. The thing caused all kinds of issues - my internet connection wouldn't work, my home network wouldn't work, some applications wouldn't work. I got tired of it all.

Yeah I actually uninstalled Avast yesterday because it uses WAY too much CPU.

Have you found a good alternative?

Yes. Not using one.

The days of Windows 98 or XP are long gone, the only cyberthreat you might encounter these days is ransomware, but the chance of getting it is so low that you might as well not use any third-party antivirus at all. Windows Defender is good enough for most home Windows users IMO.

Thanks, this had worked out for me.

I recently had this problem as well. I was updating/verifying my installation, and My Bitdefender Free took issue with the game's fullgame.dll file, flagging it as a trojan horse. I had to create and exclusion for that file in both the steam\steamapps\common\horizon zero dawn\localcachedx12\ and steam\steamapps\downloading\(code)\localcachedx12\ folders and restart the computer and then was good to go.

Apparently, some new threat was identified in recent days, and antivirus makers have implemented an analysis of the way the threat works. Unfortunately, Horizon's code looks suspiciously similar to this new threat, so when you try launching it and your antivirus scans the fullgame.dll (for Horizon) or whatever file (for different games), it gets recognized as potentially infected, quarantined (moved elsewhere), thus making the game crash on loading.

Solution for now is to go to the Quarantine section of your antivirus and explicitly allow this particular file to (a) be returned where it belongs, and (b) be used by the game.
