Most people that always chime in about SLI being dead are the ones that do not own current SLI setups. To your point, sure, one 2080ti will run most current games today over 50fps and is generally powerful enough on it's own. However there are plenty of new titles that do support it and some that scale amazingly well. If you have the hardware to support, like a good 144Hz 4k monitor, when games do support it, then I can take advantage of it.
Great scaling examples:
Tomb Raider - single card ~70FPS, dual card - 120FPS.
Ark (while I don't play much anymore) - maxed out - single ~50-60fps, dual 90-100+.
Any FC.. FC New Dawn looks amazing with HDR @ 100+FPS with max options @ 4k.
SW Jedi Fallen order - Single ~55-65 FPS, Dual 90-100.
There are also a handful of games like RDR2 where everyone claimed that they would never support SLI. While it's still not natively supported, there are working profiles for it - 90-100FPS maxed @ 4k - enough said.
Some other interesting reading is when nvidia quietly added CFR rendering mode - that boosted my frames in Metro Exodus to 90+. This could be a potential game changer down the road.
The flip side is that there are a lot of great titles out here (the last two assassin's creeds come to mind) where SLI simply does not work and likely never will.
SLI will continue to be the enthusiasts build and while it's far from dead, it's also far from being widely adopted.
If you think that, you're clueless. I'm playing the game using SLI just fine. A game does not need to support SLI to use SLI on a game
SLI is dead. Driver and profile support is pretty much dead. Most motherboards don't support it. A lot of game engines won't recognise it, including Unreal Engine 4.
3 and 4 way SLI support is retired.
It's a shambling corpse. Just get 1 high end GPU, thats the only way to get decent value and performance.
I switched from SLI Titan X cards to a single 1080Ti which was the same performance.
And its not just haters hating on SLI, it's a dead platform.
It was great about 5% of the time, I was able to beat a GTX580 wile saving money.
You can force alternate frame render, I found that would make non supported games work sometimes. Micro stutters were hell tho so I hope you don't get or notice that.
But most of the time I found even forcing would not work and you would get better frames using only 1 card.
I'm sure he's forcing AFR with a inspector profile. More FPS but broken TAA and visual bugs
Any game can be forced into SLI by going to the game's profile in the nvidia control panel and forcing alternate frame rendering. You can also use a tweaker tool to adjust the driver and try a multitude of SLI modes until you find one that works as AFR doesn't always do a good job
Granted, there are some games that will just crash or perform like hell if you do this, but most will work.
All an SLI optimized game does is pick a mode that it works well with (or works with nvidia to have a mode created for the game). A game only sees ONE GPU when in SLI mode. SLI is completely transparent to a game. It is all handled by the driver and the GPUs
err you are clueless. Every game in SLI requires an SLI profile. This is why people use nvidia inspector to create and edit existing game profiles to try and get higher SLI scaling on each card if the default profile from nvidia driver is bad.
Learn about what you are using before you spread bad information.
There is required hardware support, game engine support, driver support and SLI profile support. How much GPU scaling are you getting on each card, and is the SLI giving you higher FPS than when it's disabled?
AFR is probably the way this is being done now, but I found that to never work, and its a brute force option you only use when you are desperately trying to force a game to recognise and use your 2nd GPU.
Plus SLI wouldn't work with Gsync and frame pacing issues were an issue for a long time.

With it being "dead" and no support in UE, how I am able to utilize it in some of their games? Take Ark for example (a game written in UE).
Umm you can MAKE your own SLI profile for a game. LOL (see my other comment).. and no... no game get's coded to "recognize" a second GPU.. brb.. I just spit up my soda laughing.
