You can only make them fight for you, but they do not have an advanced body guard system that makes them follow you
The Strider, Broadhead, and Charger are also mountable when overridden
I think I could never hack the 'boss types', like the gigantic thunder lizards or the thunderbird types. I know some bigger, rather mid sized I eventually could hack. But the ones i could mount were the smaller four legged, more sensibly mountable ones like the zebra/horse looking ones early game and iirc one of the ram looking types I also rode. I only remember riding those two, and I think a skill a later unlocked through a skillpoint also brought me either a horse or ram looking one when I used it so that i didn't need to go around hacking another one if I lost it.
ah crap now that I think about it, maybe that came from the last cauldron. I'm gonna have to look that up now to be sure.
