https://support.505games.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015248560-I-m-receiving-an-Access-Violation-or-other-crash-when-launching-DEATH-STRANDING-
First you need to know that Death Stranding is not using completely the same Decima engine but a modified version. If you compare minimum requirements you'll notice CPU/GPU is not the same for DS and HZD.
Second, unlike a few posters above, I did have the occassional DX12 access violation crashes. These started appearing on my side after the game was patched.
Those are pretty much random. I could play the game sometimes for 10 hours and see none, other times the game crashed to desktop after only 15 minutes of playtime. For no apparent reason.
Anyway, I believe I had the issue like 20 times total and yes it's a bit annoying but it didn't prevent me to 100% the game.
Third, some people for an unknown reason cannot start Death Stranding at all although they're trying to play it on a PC above minimum requirements. Oddly, people on the same CPU/GPU/RAM combination play the game normally. Why is that so, noone knows.
Fourth, due to some nVidia driver bug, some people had certain texture problems. Nvidia released a hotfix that addressed this issue.
Fifth, Death Stranding has some problem with controllers. If you play it with K+M, no problems, but many people with any type of controller reported significant FPS drops while the controller is plugged in PC even if they don't play the game with it. For this issue apparently a workaround exists, but I didn't explore it much as I played the game with K+M, sorry.
Finally Death Stranding does not support ancient CPUs (those without AVX instructions). This is not a bug in DS and is deliberate - whoever was porting the game didn't expect some people will try to play modern games on a decade old or older hardware.
EDIT:
Forgot to add my rig details, the game played smoothly and had no technical problems on my side except those strange DX12 crashes: i5 4670K, GTX 1070, game installed on separate SSD (not on C:)
Running the game here with AMD Ryzen 1700X. No issues. Perhaps its the video card drivers.
I had problems with starting game, access violation after menu. It occurred that files integrity was bad, after Predownload, so 5 GB new file downloaded and... Game run!
I have Ryzen CPU, RTX GPU.
I play on Dualshock 4v2 and those two so far, shooting sequences on K&M.
Game installed on SSD (not System one).
AMD FX8350, 8GB DDR3, GTX1060
