Game "stopped working" and won't play

Hey,

I bought Iron Brigade as part of today's Amazon deal, got my download code, installed and tried to play. At least 5 times now, I get no farther than a black screen and dialogue box informing me it's stopped working. No help, nothing. So I deleted the local files and reinstalled...same issue.

Any idea what I should do? I'm on Windows 7 with PC specs that should handle this game just fine.

I found the absolutely stupid explanation. This game uses Games for Windows Live, but it's bugged and crashes UNLESS you download the GFWL client and sign into it BEFORE you launch Iron Brigade. Then you have to leave it running behind the game.

That's so freaking stupid, because in other games that use GFWL in Steam (Dawn of War 2 comes to mind), the client works in the game.

I'm running Windows 8 x64 and have the latest GFWL redistributable and client installed (v3.5). I'm running a GTX 460 with up to date drivers. The game launches but the screen goes completely black and the process appears to hang. I've tried launching the GFWL client prior to launching the game but the result is the same.

Sorry @Castaa. For the other guys, based on some limited Googling I was able to find people having the problem who said the GFWL client was the problem. So installing that and running it before IB has fixed my problem. No trouble after doing that.

It shouldn't be this hard to play a great game!

I'm having the same problem. I was playing all day, and now I get an error when launching it as soon as the screen goes black. I uninstalled and reinstalled, same thing.

I was able to resolve it by going into the save folder and deleting the prefs file and screen.dat file.
