Multiplayer not connecting
Started playing this again and although I can play single player just fine and my friend can play single player just fine, we can't get connected to play multiplayer. Checked and it is also affecting another GfWL game. Can someone give me some pointers about getting this to work?

My router is set for Open NAT and UPnP is enabled. Windows firewall is set to allow IB to communicate. My friend says he gets message about me having a "strict firewall". I simply get "Error. Cannot join session".

I've played online before but have recently installed a new Netgear R7000 router.

Been all over that first one. The second one however, did list another port that I can open. Thanks for the help. Now to test it.

Well, its not my router. Connected straight in and get same error. Tried uninstalling everything GFWL related and reinstalling, no help. I did however, learn that this affects ALL my GFWL games. Can't play Lost Planet2 multiplayer either. But on a LAN it works great.

Any ideas? Other than firewall? I've been all over that also.

How about you wait a couple of days and see if they kick out GFWL for good?
Or you could look at http://portforward.com/ (no promises).

Yeah, I really don't think it's my router and ports as it doesn't work connected straight to my cable modem

My ISP is Japanese. How do I explain to them that all my multiplayer GFWL don't connect?
Luna Sep 2, 2014 @ 10:29am
GFWL is avaliable in Japan, so I doubt it's anything to do with that.

If you are unable to connect to games and people can't join your hosted games, it's going to be a port/firewall issue on your end, sorry.

To test if it's a firewall issue, turn off your firewall and test if you can connect.
Setting your firewall to allow GFWL to communicate (you only stated IB) would be the best idea.

These are the ports you should need:
TCP/UDP port 53
TCP/UDP port 88
TCP/UDP port 1863
TCP/UDP port 3074

A couple of days?. We wish. Given DF's information policy and speed during this matter, I'd sign a couple of months today without giving it a thought.

PS.- DF, please make me look bad and release the patch in a couple of days. Believe me, I won't care in the least.

I'm pretty sure it's not my router. I've removed the router and still can't connect in GFWL multiplayer games. My wife hates it when I do that as she loses her connection. I have the windows firewall and I've tried turning it off and that doesn't help either.

You'll have an extremely hard time connecting to the internet without a router, it acts as a NAT Gateway from internet addressing to external addressing. I suspect what you think is your router, isn't your router.

I have a cable modem woth one port on it that connects to my Netgear R7000 AC router. Pretty sure that is my router.

If that's the case, then it can either be your modem (If it's a high-end model they sometimes carry firewalls) or your router. I'm extremely doubtful (as in 99.999% sure) it's going to be your ISP blocking the connection. This is because it's way too much hastle for them to monitor ports for every person who uses them.

Steps to try:
Disable your firewall. (Windows + Anti-Virus Firewall.)
Disable your Anti-Virus Protection. (AVG is really bad for blocking everything.)
Try connecting -> If this fails, move on and try the router.

Put your computers IP in a DMZ (Makes every port open to that IP address.) This can be done easily on your router. Test if you can connect.

Port Forward to your computers IP. YOU MUST SET A STATIC IP ADDRESS FOR THIS TO WORK! You MUST create a custom service for each port, then you MUST assign each service to your computers IP. Most people create the service then move on, this DOESN'T forward the ports.

Refer here for help on configuring an R700 NightHawk Router:

Here are examples from my router for reference:

Formatting is screwy but this is how my router is set up.

Thank you Luna for the help but so far shutting off the windows firewall and putting this computer in the DMZ did not help. I'm really beginning to think it is my ISP

Port 1863?

Could be worth speaking to your ISP, it's a rare occurence, but it sometimes happens. Happen with Virgin Media users for League of Legends.

Also, I'd advise against port forwarding 80 and 443. These are HTTP and HTTPS, which can screw over internet browsing for other users.

Does your anti-virus not come with a firewall?

Check the port forwards are set to 'Inbound' and 'Allow Always' as a few have inbound and outbound port forwarding sections.

Check ports with http://www.canyouseeme.org/
Iron Brigade needs to be running (and probably searching for players) for this to work.

I was opening up any port that I could find listed as a possible problem. I'll remove those two.

I only use Microsoft products on my home PC. Usually that makes it easier for me to deal with everything.

I've checked the firewall under Advanced settings and set all GFWL and IB and Lost Planet 2 for allowed, both inbound and outbound.

I even purchased the PortForward software to see if I was doing it wrong. DOesn't look like I was.

Next week I'll drop by my ISP and start complaining about this. I wanted to check every possibility before I did that. They ALWAYS say it is my router that is causing the problem.
