Any way to use a controler on this game?
The game just seems like it would work better on a controler than a keyboard, what with the diagonal movement and quck button triggering, but for some reason I can't remap the buttons to anything other than a keyboard. Is there some trick to it I am missing?

You need a XBOX 360 controller.

If you do'n't have one (like me) use this:

Costume Quest has native support for controllers, although the graphics will show buttons for the Xbox360 controller. So as long as your operating system has all the right drivers, you should be able to asign controller keys from within Costume Quest. Personally, I use a PS3 controller via bluetooth. It took 5 minutes to set up with MotioninJoy.

XBOX 360 Controller works out of the box, UI buttons included, and works well with the gameplay, too. :)

The Linux program xboxdrv has worked well for me. I haven't tried it in Costume Quest, but I played Euro Truck Sim 2 with a Playstation 3 controller on Ubuntu using xboxdrv. :)

Xboxdrv doesn't work, at least not by itself. Well, you can get it to but it's a bit wonky and still displays the keyboard buttons. At least on Linux, and probably on Mac as well, a similar method for what has to be done with The Cave, where SDLGamepad.config has to be (semi)manually edited. I found a script that automatically does it provided you have the controller set up in Big Picture mode (had to boot a live CD myself, apparently there's a bug with the closed blob for my graphics, causes it to crash) and edited it a bit (changed the config directory to the CQ one, and I think the library part was for the Mac setup. quite a few Cave references in the code still) http://pastebin.com/EMgWDYUa

==EDIT== that's for any that aren't already configured that is, like for my Duke

Turn your Xbox controller on first before starting up the game otherwise it doesn't seem to respond to any button pressing. Bit of a late reply, sorry. If anyone else is curious or having problems.

Same issue. Can only move around, and can't assign buttons.

Yeah, that still doesn't work. Lets me operate the menu & move around. That's it. No pail bash or anything.

Apologies, this is all I had problems with and turning it on before starting the game worked for me.

So I'm retarded. I didn't realize the game didn't allow you to use the controls until after they are taught to you.

I didn't use any controller to finish the game, but my brother used his on his laptop. It was a 360, by the way and it worked fine, right out of the box.

I'm using MotionInJoy to play PC games with my PS3 Controller. This works, too.

The MotionInJoy driver is okay (well, at least for the original Xbox controller, I haven't tried with the PS3 one but I can't imagine support would be worse for what the project was originally intended for) though I prefer Better DS3 rather than the official DS3 Tool one for configuring it. Completely offline, better looking design, less potential to be used as a Trojan horse (DS3 Tool is hardcoded to look for instructions from the MIJ site, and will happily carry out any instructions coming from there with admin rights. Used currently to update the tool, but if the dev ever goes bad or stops and someone else buys the domain it could be used to seriously mess up anyone who has DS3 Tool running)

trying with x360ce but not work, i think that can be the InputHook configuration (inside .ini) but i was trying differents options without success. The "error" is that button configuration inside the game doesn't work.

Yes, my xbox 360 controller also worked right out of the box.
I have too a 360 controller and works fine ;_;
