Quick Save / Quick Load please
Hello cool people,

It's all in the title. Could you please add quick save / quick load?

Hey all,

We've been talking about this internally. I want to reiterate my firm belief that the survival horror style save system is the intended way to play the game, and that quick-loading any mistake robs the experience of its intended tension and weight.

Crescent will allow save anywhere, Half/Full Moon will continue to enforce phonograph saves and Blood Moon will soon enforce phonograph saves with a consumable wax cylinder item requirement.

However - we're going to be introducing an additional custom difficulty in the near future that allows players to tweak the settings as they wish, including allowing quick save/loading.

That said, for the final game - there will be Resident Evil-style unlocks for the preset difficulties like Blood Moon that will require you to play that mode's difficulty as we intended it.

The game is designed with manual save points and shortcuts that wrap back around to them. It's one of the survival horror aspects.

I disagree. Again, there are tons of challenging games that allow quick save/load. I really wish the devs add this feature to the game. People who don't want to use it, good for them, but it would definitely make the game more enjoyable for me. Playing the way you want is the main feature of an immersive sim, right?

Wait for the easiest difficulty comes out you will be able to save whenever you want to. So just be patient :))

I'm pretty sure the easy mode will have quicksaving, the demo had that if I remember right

I really don't understand this decision. This has nothing to do with difficulty.
I wish they at least add a "Save and quit" option.

It has everything to do with difficulty. The ability to quick save and quick load would allow people to save scum and remove most of the challenge.

How others play a single player game has zero effect on you. I infer that it annoys you that others might enjoy a game in a way that you don't and that is odd.

It does have real life consequences as you can be forced to lose quite a bit of gameplay through not fault of your own and this is a bad thing. That affects me and it affects others.

If you want to play this like a console game, then fine, but allowing save and exit at least would be better for others at no cost to you.

Too many enemies and too few hiding places. The way saving is done really is tedious.

Yep, but what if I want a badass AI and cruel gameplay constraints, while being able to save whenever I want? :)

Should be added. Then the individual can decide if they want to use the feature. Maybe add a checkbox at the start of the game that lets you disable quick save/loading if so desired. More features and the ability to personally tune game difficulty is never a bad thing.

Personally I didn't have too many problems with the availability of save points beyond the very beginning, but I still think allowing an optional quicksave feature to be turned on independent of other difficulty settings is a reasonable ask.

Generally speaking, the more options you have to customize difficulty, the better. I'd also love to see damage multiplier options (both player and NPC) to create a more brutal (but still fair) experience. By default both the player and NPCs have more health than I think they probably should.

Disagree. Save scumming ruins gaming.

EDIT: I have merged this with my later post which elaborates further on our design choices.

If you absolutely need quicksaves and don't want to wait for easy mode to be implemented, you can enable the developer console and use the loadgame and savegame cheats.

1. Browse to the Gloomwood game folder.
2. Open up user.ini in a text editor like Notepad.
3. Change DevConsole and Cheats from 0 to 1 and save the file.

You can then access the console with the tilde (~) key.

Thanks, Zombie, cool trick.

Are you guys considering the idea of a "Save and quit" option? And adding a quicksave/quickload option to every difficulty level?

Cheers.

Only Crescent Moon difficulty will have a "save anywhere" feature, the other difficulties require you to use phonographs to save as a deliberate design choice. You will always be able to use the console to save on other difficulties, but we want to discourage it if possible.

This short snippet of the game has dozens of shortcuts to most save points, you can't go more than 5 minutes without finding one.
