Best Hive strategy so far?
I've played through the Hive twice now and the best strategy I have so far is:

1. Stock up on as much ammo as you can.
2. Do not open doors that won't close on their own and stick to the tunnels and parkour to get around for as much as possible.
3. If you need to kill Crowmen, do so from as much of a distance as you can, preferably with bars or gap between you and them.
4. Smash as many eggs as you can, with the sword and not a gun.
5. Snipe as many Crowmen as you can from the position where you get the harpoon gun, repeat the same process from the tower.
6. Get the valve wheel open that one door from both sides.
7. When you get the elevator ready, dim as many lights as you can and hide in the darkness underneath the platform.
8. Wait until the Crowmen who flocked to the elevator to leave, if some won't, that is what dimming the lights was for.

Anyone got a better strategy?

i'd say try to avoid fighting and try to slip past unnoticed without confronting anyone, or at least not a lot of species at once.
Learn escape routes > Isolate a crowman near said escape route > Tango them to death with the sword > Leave before anymore came > Repeat
That method is what allowed me to overcome the castle section of the hive in spite of me not bringing no where near enough ammo to deal with most of the crows.
When I'll go at it again, I'll bring flame bolts as well as more ammo so that I could potentially kill flocks of crowmen with a gunshot as bait and a well placed flame bolt.

Where is the ninth strategy of eating every single crowman, eh?

Well, first off that is an eight part strategy and not eight different ones, secondly we can't do that... Yet...

1) Opposite the elevator, there's a doorway with a gate switch that lowers the steel bars. I've lured them there and they can't get past the bars, but I can stab them through the bars, saving ammo. I haven't tested it on the "crescendo event elevator" yet. I've noticed that the pale crowmen (without hats) have significantly higher HP. What's disappointing is that (unlike Arx Fatalis) the steel bars did not kill/crush the crowmen even when they were right beneath it.

2) In preparation for the elevator fight, I placed a few fuel barrels around the elevator and hid on top of the generator. When a few crowmen start crowding around, you can shoot the fuel tanks and one hit KO all of them. I think you can try spacing the tanks apart so that one explosion doesn't take out the other thanks. You can manufacture a few more fuel tanks and spread them around the arena. Recommended to kill the nearby crowmen before doing this, as the constructor makes a loud sound. If you haven't found the valve to fix the other side of the door, just drop a few of them in batches outside the door, so you don't have to keep taking the long trip back to the refueling station. Recommended you take out the torches near the door so you don't accidentally burn the fuel tanks.

3) I tried a very immersive sim thing with one of the timed valve doors (the one that leads to fuel storage) - I placed a box underneath the gate, and it stopped the gate. Sadly, I hadn't managed to make that useful as the boxes would block the doorway.

4) It's possible to kill a wizard hat crowman on a 1v1 if you're both far away enough from the others. You'd have to begin with a front charged stab, then it's a matter of timing the blocks before the next charged stab. I think it's about 3 or 4 stabs to take them down.

Incendiary bolts are crazy good for the hive, probably the best place to use them so far. Thinking of trying to clear the hive with just those bolts for my next run, would definitely help on saving inventory space for looting.
