@Wolfie okay hmm you turned the generator on , and turned the elevator switch on?
Now let's do this little thing, that humans are capable of, -- though for zoomers and modern gamers, that might be an alien concept and some kind of a lost art, -- thinking. Hmm, so in the Hive, you're provided with this little thing "Harpoon Gun"; that gun located near a drop, with a wooden block, with seemingly no way up to a sewers once you would drop down.
But wait, there's a rope tied to that wooden plank, and other such planks scattered around the Hive. Hmmm, could it be, that if you shoot a harpoon to a wood... oh look, it's just like in the "Thief" and "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic" -- now there's a rope for you to climb.
Now let's gaze our eyeballs to a sky, once you're past the elevator. Oh me oh my, could those be... could those be... wooden planks? And what is that?! A bunch of harpoons just lying around. A hint? A subtle nudge for a player? An enviromental diegetic means to provide player with means to traverse? Probably not, but who knows.
