Game Awards have been a corporate sham for years.

Give it another year, maybe it needs more poularity. If that doesn't happen, we can always hope this game pulls a Danganronpa.

Agreed, this game actually deserve an award due to almost all aspect (writing, story, and art direction is the main aspect) is eligible even this game made in RPGMaker..

Suggestion?
Try upvote this game on the other award.. like Golden Joystick Awards? Steam Awards? Any thing?

Maybe Omori doesn't count since it was released in december?
So basically this is the curse of december game releases.

True, and due to the sensitive nature of various elements in the game and the lack of publicity or attention in mainstream gaming outlets or websites, OMORI is not likely to get any highly publicized Game of the Year awards. Keep in mind though that a lot of great games do not get Game of the Year or attention in media. And sometimes, it's better that way.

For the game awards in particular, the cuttoff date for last year was November 20th, meaning that Omori would be eligible for this year's year-based awards since it released after that. I also disagree that Omori hasn't gotten enough attention to get any nominations. It's been a pretty successful game and has definitely gotten more mainstream coverage than some of the other games in the indie and debut indie categories. I also don't really think that the theming is a disqualifier.

As per why it didn't then, I don't think there's really a way to know specifically.

I'm referring to the critics and GotY advisors who have the final say in nominations and typical websites like Metacritic. Yes, OMORI received a lot of attention from us the players, but how many of the people with power to nominate know of or pay attention to games like OMORI? It tends to be the games published under AAA companies like Sony, Nintendo, EA, etc. that get nominated and win.

Well the publisher part won't apply to indie categories, and those are moreso the games I was comparing to in terms of exposure level. A couple on there had a rather small amount of players from what I could see, so obviously they're finding indies somehow, even ones much smaller than Omori.
It's probably for the best to be honest, don't want this game getting too popular that it becomes like undertale, with all the...fan art that it has

I stopped taking them seriously a loong time ago. Even if I don't play a game I tend to hear about it somewhere, and yet they somehow managed still find games I've not even heard of nominated. Here are indie games that came out based on popularity they seemingly are at.

Valheim - popular but very silent now. Nominated. 95% score
Omori - second most popular.Somehow only 7 well known Critics actually bothered reviewing this game somehow on Metacritc. 98% score
Loop Hero - Died in popularity a month or two after it came out. Nominated 93% score
Library of Runia - Has a lot of popularity in Korea and has an amazing Soundtrack and Mili songs that have over half a million views. 91% score
Wildermyth - Same as loop hero. Not Nominated 95% score

Most of the ones I've not played but heard about indie games also seem to be about Wildermyth levels of known. Needless to say you'd really have to of gone out of your way not to know about this game when it came out. More so not even being nominated, and it's probably the most highest if not the highest rated indie game that came out this year.

Clearly you've not been on the reddit. I pray not see a weird meme or dark humor joke every time a take a peak over there.
