The game keeps crashing on startup (Mac)

I just bought this game. Every time I try to launch it on my macbook (new macbook air M1), it starts in a small window, but crashes on the first loading screen. Steam then says it's still running and pressing the quit button on steam won't work, so I have to quit steam to launch it again. Has anybody else run into this problem? and is there a fix for it?

I'm having this issue as well, unfortunately haven't been able to fix it :-(

I got it to play once. Now it won't run. Trying to find a fix.

I know this isn't a fix, but you can go to activity monitor and quit nwjs helper to make it a faster reboot. Eventually the game will run.

Try disabling Steam Overlay (You’ll find that setting if you go to the game’s Properties window under the “general” tab.) Fixed it for me.

So, I have a question, the Steam Store page specifically says this game works on Windows 10. Neither Apple nor Linux are known to be OS that support a wide array of games. Do people even read the recommended specs for a game before they buy it? 90% of the posts in the "bug megathread" is people trying to run this game on anything BUT Windows.

The store page specifically lists support for MacOS (10.12 minimum). Most people I've seen saying they have issues with Mac are on the new ARM macbooks though.
