Because he didn't do it.

Sunny and Basil handled the grief differently. Basil accepted the reality of what he did, but without a coping mechanism the guilt destroyed him. Sunny buried his memories in Black Space. If Aubrey hadn't snagged all the Mari photos it's likely Sunny or Omori would've tried to destroy them at some point, yes.

If your talking about the pictures at the very end of the game, they aren't actual pictures for obvious reasons. Its his way of dealing with fractured memories.

hmm i mean audrey said she saw him blacking out photos, i assume she meant THOSE photos that would have gotten them into hot ♥♥♥♥, eh I'll just chalk it up to dumb kids doing dumb things at a really really stressful time in their lives

its quite a mystery to me yeah how the marker/blackened out pictures got restored somehow. i can vaguely remember 1 instance where Basil made 2 photos of one scene, maybe he made 2 copies of everything? someone would need to confirm that tho

I think we are geting two type of photos confused. There are the real word photos which Basil probably blacked out to hide the evidence, and then there was the ones in Sunny's dream that we saw him remembering his repressed memory. Just like how the photo album existed both in the dream world and real world.

oh yeah, just double checked, the ruined/blackened out ones were indeed the real world ones, but there is no evidence/bad things in them though so maybe Basil wanted everyone to find out he was mentally ill.

I mean if it were the same photos we saw in the second album with sunny pushing mari thats pretty much evidence im just saying first off why he even take the photos in the first place and second should have thrown the entire camera into the toy box with the violin

that is not the album you mentioned in your OP though, there were no black marker used on those. the scratched out ones were the good real life photos.

the murder case pictures can only be found in black space, and seem more like visions of Basils perspective. i posted it a lot in other threads but it is worth checking out the album wiki page for this game.

The "photos" of the truth are not real photos. They're just memories/metaphorical. The photos that were scribbled out were the ones in the real world (the ones you go through in the real album). It's not hard to get sharpie marks off something if you have nail polish remover.

ah so basil really was trying to i see honestly thought he took pics of the entire ordeal and just left me dumb founded like kid cmon

I think the way Basil tried to cope after the painful truth was to completely seal away the past, both the good and bad memories so that he can carry on living in the present. But past memories, no matter how deep they are buried will always come back. He blacked the good memories photos with marker so that he wouldnt be reminded of the past, but at the same time, he just didnt want to completely destroy it, because part of himself also kinda longed for the good memories he had.

Basil didn't black out the photos. Sunny was the one who drew over them. Basil took the blame to protect Sunny, and that's why Aubrey thought Basil was the one who sabotaged them. This is all said/implied throughout the course of the game at separate points.

Wait what? Damn I guess I must have somehow missed this important plot detail...
When was it mentioned that Sunny was the one that blacked out the photos? Sometimes I just wish Sunny is not an absolute silent protagonist lol
