[ENDING SPOILERS] What exactly triggers the secret good ending?

I just finished my second playthrough and this time I started watering Basil's flowers since the very beginning, but then before the fight with Humphrey they died for some reason and I couldn't revive them. I thought that I screwed up and that I'm not getting the bonus scene anymore. In black space I went through all the doors before the red one and finished the game and then woke up in the hospital, went to Basil's room and got the secret good ending and was very surprised??

I think what triggers it is going through all the doors before the red one, because I didn't think that you could do that and went straight for the red door which ended up with me not having the secret good ending.
Also, as for not being able to water Basil's flowers, you're able to water them again once you collect all the "welcome to black space" keys - and based on that it doesn't seem necessary for the secret good ending.

yeah, i personally never wanted to be a completionist in the game but when it comes to actual content i at least wanted to experience everything, the flowers eventually died for me beyond repair but i did go through every door in black space because i thought that i needed all the keys to unlock the red door, and every door just kept on getting more and more horrific that it was the kinda thing where even though it was terrifying and i hated having to see it, i couldnt look away, and i did get the end credits scene at the end of my first playthrough because of that i assume.
