Something Interesting About The Good Ending (SPOILERS)
So I just finished all of the normal route endings yesterday, and I've been processing and thinking about the experience ever since. Interestingly, at the very end of the good ending, you see Sunny waking up from his dreams and battle with Omori. He is ready to go confess what happened to his friends. You leave the bed and head out to the hallway only to be met with a crossroads. Your three friends from the dream world which go one way (towards the exit of the hospital I presume), and Basil who goes the other way towards his room. I view this moment as a figurative crossroads for Sunny. A last chance to back out of what he's about to do. In other words, do I risk telling my friends what I did and losing it all...or leave and continue to be alone forever. And it's interesting because I can kind of relate to this. You have the resolve to do something that is very difficult (whether that be admitting to something that is very, very hard to admit or otherwise). At the last moment, you might decide to change your mind.

Another interesting note on this is that if you follow your friends towards the exit, Sunny will shake his head as if to say, "No...I've been running from this for far to long. This ends today". It would have been interesting if this had been part of the choice for the different endings. I really love this game.

I like how Sunny's dream friends are inviting him to play for only him to jump off a building, kind of like inviting Sunny to the dream world forever. The ending was really well made for me because of the ambiguity of what happens after he confesses and basically opening the end with our own conclusion. Do they forgive him or not? Also that duet really hits hard, made me really tear up to see Mari finally passing on.

Yeah, and it also makes sense that it's Basil who he goes after, considering Basil has always represented the "truth." During the whole story, it's always been about finding Basil after Sunny's mind tried to erase him from his dreamworld before he could reveal what happened to Mari.

Sunny ignoring his dream friends (his escapist fantasies), in favor of going after Basil (the truth) shows that he has finally taken a huge step towards bettering himself.

It's truly a powerful moment.
