Does this game have any swearing in it at all including mild profanities? Will I expect one of the characters to say the F-word or the S-word?

Does that really matter? The person above your question stated it's not mandatory, therefore chances you get find it are unlikely on a blind playthrough.

There is one single profanity used in the game, and it has a 1/13 chance of happening in a playthrough. It is in a very specific spot, and it is very unlikely that you will encounter it. It is more of a easter egg/joke.

"what the hell" is used at one point, if you consider that a profanity. It's part of the main story and can't be missed on that path

No, they keep it very PG and PG-13 at worst. There's an F-bomb in one of the game's later areas that replaces an NPC's usual text when spoken to, but the chances of you getting it are quite low.
I'd say profanities should be the least of your concerns when playing this, as the game deals with some heavy stuff and has disturbing imagery depicting death, among other things, but I hope this answers your question.

Yeah swear words aren't really an issue, but to be honest it deals with a lot of mature themes so I feel like if you're trying to figure out if there are swear words the game might not be for you.

no, there is a swear word programmed into the game but it is only possible to get it through changing the games code
