most jumpscares are avoidable and exist to improve the mood of the game and put you in the character headspace.

(spoiler) you can avoid the first one by simply not opening the door for Mari.

this is not a horror game, it has intense psychological horror elements but it is not the focus.
its worth it, trust me.

Horror was specially added to the game in order to give more feelings and emotions(as being scared) when you play as the main character. So the horror is worth to watch in this game.

(Spoiler) You can also avoid a few jumpscares by simply not looking into the mirrors in the real world

Yeah not a fan of uh, horror either, but guess so far people said it was worth a go... Guess mirrors are not your friend in this game, huh.

Well, atleast it has "cues" for when spooky stuff may occur, and it's supposedly quite tame on that front, from what i heard. Worst i've seen so far is if you open the door in that one moment early on, though supposedly i'm like halfway through progress-wise. Dunno if worse is yet to come.

Ah well, guess all i could do is push on and hope it doesn't lead to regrets... Didn't start it entirely blindly, so going into blind territory is uh... Yeah... Not really looking forward to it when stuff gets creepy...

Thank you for all that replied I really appreciated it, for the heads up and all of that, thank you!
I don't think this game is scary, at least not in the sense of getting jump scares here and there (they do happen sometimes, but are rather tame).

I think the horror, if you can even call it that, mostly come from the themes the game deal with it. Not saying anything more than this here so I don't spoil anyone, but while the dream world is funny and happy, the circurstance of it's existance is anything but.

It's a pretty nice story driven game, and even while I didn't like some gameplay mechanics (mostly the combat because I dislike JRPG overall), even if you dislike horror games, this one is still worth a shot.

You can avoid the vast majority of jumpscares by ignoring mirrors. This game is psychological horror but it truly adds to the atmosphere.

It's difficult to answer the ''is it scary?'' question because fear is something so personal... I read above that some people don't consider this game scary, but personally, it scared the crap out of me. It really pulled the exact strings that freak me out. I guess it all comes down to your own experiences and trauma.
Good news, though : the scary parts are less than 20 % of the game so I still recommend you give it a shot. But some jumpscares are unavoidable, unless you don't explore or play the game with the eyes half-closed lol.

if you can handle games like Corpse Party or Doki Doki Literature Club, this one should be do-able as well. but if not, well time to man up i guess :P it gets pretty creepy at times

I don't like jumpscares, especially cheap ones, and horror nowadays abuses the crap out of them.
That being said, this game doesn't abuse them and imo they're very well placed and fitting to the experience, and they're never too extreme.
