You can't avoid combat. I love the bosses in this game, they are really cool and one of the main reasons I loved this game (with the story and the music of course)
Also, you see the enemies on the maps so you can avoid everything except bossfights (there are a lot and some are played when you're talking to someone / doing something random). But you will clearly be underleveled if you're avoiding everything.
I'd say give it another try, this game clearly made peace with my somewhat hate for turn based battle.
I ended up getting a refund, cuz I just wanted the story
that game had 10x the encounters
I think it's an exaggeration to call the combat infuriating though. At best, it gets in the way sometimes, but the fights are usually quite easy and if you are having trouble against a certain boss, there are several places where you can grind a bit for just a few minutes.
Looking at your game library, your comment is kinda funny.
Holy hell, you're right. Hilarious. I guess the game is hard and repetitive because he only uses the same action during combat?
This is the link with instructions to do that: https://www.gamepretty.com/omori-how-to-edit-and-change-stats-cheats/
Just put everyone's stats at 1000 and its very hard to die
