Well to be fair, the community has little to do with how this game should be run lol.

to be fair, when has the vibes of a community match the vibes of the game? anyways i can see why the developer would restrict some names that would make the game more silly, but at the same time i feel like it's kind of pointless

Because the people who made this game are extremely retarded, and prolly overflowing with fragility as said above. It is such a bad filter too, any word or name that has a string of letters making a swear word is banned but you just have to leetspeak it to get past it, it only results in being slightly annoying. Not playing this garbage anymore.

this is pretty normal for a lot of games, they do it for a lot of reasons from but not limited to people taking screenshots of their game with names that are messed up like "hitler" or just curse words that when shared online could give the game a bad image. Honestly not a big deal and I get why it is done so idc personally. Most times people think something is for a personal reason or hidden agenda but this being done is by large a industry standard for exactly the reason I just stated. It all comes down to marketing and money... also this game was made using rpgmaker and I think that is default setup that way unless you disable it in the game making settings intentionally.

Heaven for fend I choose a name where a random sub-string is a 'bad word'. I have refunded the game over this nonsense because I do not want to financially support any developer that engages in the kind of behavior.

I do think that someone whose name has HIV in it not being able to use the name is basically being penalized for their name (especially if, say, that person's name is Shiva and has been made fun of for having a weird Indian name their whole life, then they might feel especially penalized), and while it's only annoying and not hurtful in the context of a video game, if this attitude is elsewhere in more important things then that is a problem
