So my experience with Yu gi Oh is watching the first season of the show and buying the cards when i was little but other than that i have no idea about anything. I learned some stuff in this game but i have no idea how to build a deck and where should i look? Any tips on how to do it and what packs to open (im playing the campaign i don't care for the mp)

Well you may not find this helpful but I will try anyways.

First off dont worry about trying to build a good deck until you got a grasp of the Rules and Cards. Find a Card or Monster Type you like and start there. When building a Deck you can select a Card and an Option to view other Cards that are effected by or with is available. This will give you a good starting point to just play around and find out how Cards work together.

As for what Packs to buy I suggest one of two things. First select Packs from Characters that use the Types you might want from when you watched it. Example is Yugi will have Dark Magician and Grandpa Exodia. Second is to just buy a few from each until you have about 50 percent of what you can get from them unlocked. That will give you a good amount of New Cards coming in to let you play around with new stuff and see what each Pack has to offer.

The important thing when starting out is to not get overwhelmed by all the Options and Rules to learn. Just take it slow and focus on having fun finding what works. If you just stick to what is Meta and Cheap Tricks you will find the game boring and repetitive. I hope I helped some.

Thank you for the help. I opened a few Kaiba packs and tried to build a blue eyes deck which im winning the story missions for now with.

I guess I'll add on to this, for the campaign, playing decks you like shouldn't be a problem; even if cards are banned, there is no restrictions on single player game, save what you want to use to challenge yourself. As you go through the campaign, its designed in a way to help you acclimate to new rules and mechanics as introduced as if you learnt them through watching the series.

When you want more in depth or competitive ideas, you can choose your favorite characters in the "challenge" mode for whom you've unlocked. They tend to have pretty closely optimized deck that fits the theme of their character more-or-less. They can be really good spring boards of learning what to tweak and learning some of the more interesting combos.

On that note, its not a horrible idea to replay some challenge games just to see what the NPC does with some combos, they aren't fully optimized, so it tends to show all the different things it can do with the cards which might click in some new ideas for yourself.

Enjoy the game o/

Maybe try to build a deck that has at least one of each of Fusion, Synchro, XYZ, and Link (forget about pendulums for now) so you can practice and conceptually get a hold of those summoning methods

that's kind if pointless since every "era"'s story mode's first duel is dedicated to teaching precisely the mechanic. It doesn't show what's good or not, but neither does trying to toss all options in or hunt for a deck that randomly utilizes all the concepts. Story mode is sufficient in teaching.
