This is what I found in the about dlc on the page. Seems like pretty standard dlc to support dev.
Yup, it's a purely decorative piece of furniture (and kind of disappointing--not animated, the way some items are). I can grab a screenshot and put it up if that'd be helpful for people
I would understand if it was something actually gameplay relayed. Like an expansion, character(s), weapons, etc. That kinda of Day 1 DLC is scummy.
But its just cosmetics. So who cares?
Look. Im not coming after you here, but this mentality (I know cause i had the same thoughts) is what landed us in the current micro transaction hell. They baby stepped cosmetics all the way to season passes. Not sayin these devs will do this...but its predatory practice you shouldn't support. Indifference fine. Defending it ehhh
Deep Rock Galactic uses this model of DLC to help fund things with regular cosmetic packs (and a Supporter Pack or two) while also not gating any of their game play content behind a pay wall (beyond buying the game proper). If you like DRG and want to show off some swag, you buy a cosmetic pack or two, or more.
As for a different example, the Borderlands series does things differently, with DLC often being new side stores to explore different story arcs, and is more of a content focused addition. And that works for BL, since the game does have a lot of lore and story that the devs want to showcase to us.
I can totally understand wanting more out of your dollar, like new content or expanded game play. But I'm not going to think bad of an indie dev team doing cosmetics. Sure, I'm likely not going to buy them, but I know friends with more disposable cash that would totally jump in on stuff like this. And they'd jump in because they think the game is good and the stuff they get looks good.
That said, I think the current cosmetic pack seems a bit steep for what you get, but that's just me.
