dedicated servers
will we be able to run dedicated servers? what happens if all players stop a game and one one wants to get on by themselves later? does it start from same spot or does the host have to launch it again or keep it running?

Hiya!

No dedicated servers on the horizon.

All prospectors can log-off during a prospect by pressing ESC and exiting to character select or quitting to desktop. The first person to re-join the empty prospect will become the host. Everyone can join back as they wish. Everything will remain as it was :D

The only way someone will not be able to join again, is if they "settle" their prospect by leaving in their dropship. This would mean they need to start their own new prospect or join another.

Hope this has helped!

Icarus isn't a game that needs a dedicated server. Missions are session based - once they're over, they're over - there is no permanence on a mission map after the mission is complete - so a dedicated server isn't necessary.

Any game that has online for a small amount of people should have dedicated servers for those who want them (like myself). We shouldn't have to rely on any company's servers if we don't want to. If Rocketwerkz goes bye bye, so does this game because it all connects to them.

This game does need dedicated servers. The host gets utterly screwed performance wise, even if they 8 - 16 cores, 32 - 64GB RAM, 6800XT - 6900XT (or Nvidia equivalent) 100MBPS - 1GBPS internet and installed on an SSD (M.2 or SATA). You'll still be running 30 - 40fps once you have a couple of people on (god forbid you have a massive forest fire as well). Not to mention the major lag spikes as new areas load because the game can only cache so much in RAM before it has to clear.

This is one of the worst performing "full release" games I've played with multi I've played in a while, hosting issues aside. The game needs massive optimising and even then it should still have dedicated servers.
