Is this game really worth?
I have seen mixed reviews in Metacritic... I'm not sure about buying it.

Pretty expensive in the UK as well, almost AAA price.

Seen much better looking games styled like this for half the price.

I'm wondering the same. Surprisingly I never heard about it's switch release and only found out about the steam release today! I love the art style, but I wish they would have included split screen or LAN co op. It's unfortunate that developers don't want to put the time in for couch multiplayer.

Ah, that would explain the huge price jump.

When third party games release on the Switch they typically deliberately mark up games by as much as 200%. In some cases little indie games straight up priced as AAA products.

So yea, just saying that is a no-go for me.

The price jump is often because the steam release comes with all the DLC.
I believe that's the case here?
Too Metal Apr 21, 2020 @ 2:20am
Its more expensive because this version on steam has all the DLC and content that switch has after vanilla launch.

Base game was handled weird on Switch, where you bought a version of the game with two playable characters (a game+ DLC bundle), then had to buy the missing two characters.

Doing the versions had the game at a lower cost of entry at $20 for half the playable cast (at the time).

This version also appears to include two more playable characters beyond the original 4.

Yeah, like GenericPC and Too Metal mentioned, the PC version has the game, all characters (on the Switch, these were split into two versions for the digital download release), and all the Season Pass and available DLC, so it's a "complete pack" of sorts.

Also, for what it's worth, several mixed reviews I read about the game when it originally launched mentioned balancing issues, and lack of content, but the developers kept updating and adding content to the game since launch, so at least part of those complaints should have been tackled.

The Steam version launches with version 3.0.0, which includes further tweaks, and 2 new playable characters.

Does it? The description says "Choose from four playable characters (Empress, Warrior, Shinobi, or Witch) and defeat your enemies to gain experience and level up".

They probably copied the information from elsewhere for the store page, and didn't update it.

The 3.0.0 update, that is already included on the Steam version, includes 2 new characters (on the switch, one of the characters if free for everyone, the other apparently it's only for those who own a certain DLC; both are included on the Steam version, since it includes everything).

You can find more details on these characters on the official website:

The problem with having Cough co-op is that that games with inventory management and twitch base combate don't mix in well. Even game where splite screen was common place Final fantasy crystal chronicales or champions had to make compromises to make it work. Split screen is even harder to accomplish due to game being more cpu power demanding.

back in the old days split would sacrafice frame rate to make that happen. where in age where frame rate reduce is less tolerated.

technically you do have lan mode. its called playing this on the Nintendo switch.

So from playing the switch game. Its pretty decent kind of megaman zero esque gameplay. Bosses take quite a while to unlock their full moveset and actually become challenging. I think the biggest problem is that the characters have relatively limited movesets. Its to keep them sane in multiplayer but it feels a bit mechanics lite as a result. 3.0.0 does have new and expanded moveset options for the existing characters, but since they aren't on switch yet I can't speak to them.

So of the characters like the Ninja and the Witch are more interesting than others like Empress and Warrior, but frankly try them all and pick whoever you like even the simple characters have some appeal.

You can play through the main story relatively easily afterwards the dlc storyline is a decent way to leve but eventually you'll reach a wall where you just have to grind super hard for a super rare loot drop.

I picked it up a year after launch $20. I thought it was probably worth about that. Would be better in multiplayer imo.

How varied is the content in term of boss and enemies. I don't mind if the characters are pretty basic and stay relatively similar but these game tends to mostly live or die from the bestiary as far as i'm concerned.

I would say no. I mean mainly because it's biggest attraction is that it has great online co-op support...but that apparently doesn't work right now. Alongside a few other issues.

I would say it would be worth it if that major issue was fixed, and if it's sale price was it's permanent base price and there was a sale on that right now.
I mean it's like 10 - 20 hours of co-op gameplay it's not a super short game like a lot of indie games are.

Edit: I should add, they had the online issue since switch and still a have not fixed it, so odds are they never will....for that reason I say avoid it until the price comes down.

I second the sentiment. It is a good metroidvania in single-player. It just feels underwhelming to buy something with the knowledge that it doesn't have one of its key selling points.

Short answer, I'd say yes, loved all the hours I've put into it today. Only times I've had issues with multiplayer was steam related, but then I don't play with randoms, only a select group of friends.
