(Spoilers) Need help with past life choice

I am in my second playthrough and just finished creating my character. I was given a past life choice to recalibrate the shields to help save hydroponic farms before the ship goes through the wormhole and crash on the planet. I click on it and was given another past life choice option but it was grayed out and I did not know the root access code. How do I get the root access code?

I'm assuming you have to find it in another route. Probably an administrative one. I've tried a few of the obvious things like spamming robotics a bunch but no dice.

I can report that it doesn't seem to be assisting the governor. I also threw in some construction, without success.

doesn't seem to be being the governor either, had max yellow + blue skills. spammed governing, engineering, robotics. Nope, no root code.

It's only my guess but, probably, professor Hal knows the root code. It's heavily indicated in the story that he's the one who tinkered with ship's AI the most.

I also think that might be the case. Anyone gone through a playthrough of where Hal dies? Cause when that happened, I reloaded a save and saved him.

I think I also remember seeing somewhere (idk where, could be a game trailer, screenshot or whatever OR I could've just imagined this) of the ship AI being hacked or something? that might be where we acquire the code?

I'm going to bed, but someone could try and having Hal die and then go try to get colony data from the lab for Sym. I never tried that.

I did it during my first walkthrough, and it didn't do much. MC gives Sym only media data, such as movies, books etc. No root code or any other important stuff. And this action only gives you extra Sym hearts and opens path for romancing him. Don't know whether it changes anything on the second run.

My first run Hal died and gave sym the media :( no root code there. Though I've saved Hal on every play through since + given sym the media, still no root code... maybe Hal dying then getting max blue skills is the way to go. At least its something different for me to try next time.

Honestly, the only thing i just can't figure out is how to get that damm root code

I managed to figure this out when making your character you have to choose ship engineering manuals as your favorite story not sure how I unlocked this maybe just have high engineering in a game then you have to choose Congruence as your childhood friend and I'm pretty sure I unlocked this by not saving Hal then spamming repair robotics until you are asked to fix Congruence and you find out that the problem with her is that she misses Hal and if you successfully fix her you get her card and unlock the option to have her as your childhood friend

So I followed these instructions, and I can befriend Congruence as a kid, but ship engineering manuals aren't an option I have when picking a story? Consequently, I can enter the root code but then my stupid kid brain doesn't know what to do next xD Any ideas why that might be or how you get the engineering manuals option?
