It's doom 2 with doom 64 assets. It's also kinda terrible. But then, so is all "brutal doom".
It's all subjective in the end when it comes to enjoyment of a product. Instead of just insisting someone take your word for something, why not give them the reasons why you personally aren't interested. That usually goes over a lot better than telling someone what to think. Anywho... Here is info on BD64 for those who may be interested.

Yes it does require a purchased copy of Doom 2 for legal purposes (but can be used with freedoom as well from what I've read), though it does use all of the D64 assets - the sourceport allows for any number of fixes/improvements that the older Doom engine had limits to. It adds to the existing formula without ditching the original feeling. I'd recommend anyone interested in at least giving the maps a go with any other weapon/monster mods as they are packaged and delivered in a modular format. Meaning it's basically a plug and play campaign (though you may see an error here or there due to missing the BD64 files/content, it doesn't break progression). The maps are fantastic representations in a 1:1 scale with more detail added into the environments to make it look a little more modern (and suited to the names of maps in most cases). The entire BD64 mod as a whole does retain the D64 essence and feeling however, with a modern take.
Yes it is suited for coop and works perfectly when using the Zandronum sourceport. It was actually just updated back in Feb if I recall - so they are still squashing bugs years later with this mod. The only thing you'd need to do then is find the ultimate doom 64 soundtrack or any other one aimed at D64's map names, as the mod itself doesn't come with the original soundtrack from D64. After that you'd be all set.
Good luck on your coop endeavors!
Brutal doom in all its forms are an absolute dumpster fire.
The changes to game balance and flow are terrible. Particularly executions and weapon changes.
It's a bad, massively overhyped mod. It's gore for the sake of gore stapled to bad mechanics.
We don't care about your opinion either.
Doesn't make brutal doom not suck.
I think Doom 64 EX had a multiplayer function at some point, not sure if it works anymore. Still, give Retribution a try if you want to play Doom 64 with your buddies.
