and changing the settings from Vulkan to DirectX or OpenGL. Now the game starts and plays without an issue.
On the github page, go to "Releases", click the lastest one (RC4 at this moment), and then download the Doom64-Unofficial-Configuration-Tool.exe file. Then just double click on it (you can leave it in the downloads folder) and it will let you change all the options in the game, including the renderer. Set DirectX or OpenGL instead of Vulkan and you'll be fine. Then you can just launch the game and it should work.
