As for people who think vanilla is boring or puts them to sleep, they certainly never played the way it was intended, and BD is NOT the only way to make it (more) interesting, there's a vast number of Gameplay Mods out there.
This OP is obfuscating like a mofo
Where as they should be starting with the original way to play, including a crt monitor...or at the very least a faithful source port like chocolate doom or something.
It has quite a bit of feature bloat, and MarkIV was behind a good number of controversies, like encouraging someone to commit suicide, attempting to 'spice up' the gore by using images of real life corpses, and, apparently, using racist jokes in the coding (can't confirm).
I hear he's mostly mellowed out, but I still avoid it because it just plain runs badly on my system. Apparently it wasn't optimized super well.
You sound as biased as BD haters with such statements.
TL;DR brutal doom is not "just gore and fatalities" as some believe.
It's some sort of ARRANGE mode for Doom, which of course not canon and not everyone would love.
Why them and not just (g)zdoom where disable mouselook and jump if you want without them, though? Curious
Fidelity, of course. Those looking for the most vanilla experience will prefer those.
MS-DOS + CRT + Roland MT-32?
GZDoom doesn't run Doom's source code at all. Even if you set compatibility to "vanilla (strict)" things are still quite different, especially in the physics department.
GZDoom is still a perfectly fine port, mind, I just use it for mods personally instead of 'normal' gameplay.
