Even thought it adds some enemies (and some annoying bastards like chaingunners and arch-viles lol) and the super-shotgun, the level design is really poor most of the time and that hurts the experience.
Doom 64 it's more atmospheric, the levels feels nicer and the enemies are well placed in my opinion.
The only thing thing that it needs it would be the inclusion of Spider Mastermind or the Revenant but doesn't suffer for it at all.
Got it.
That's why Doom 64 is the real Doom 3

But, before you guys light me on fire, hear me out.
The way the game was designed hardly give me any satisfaction when it comes to fighting. Don't get me wrong, I consider Doom 64 to be a good game. The level design is absolutely amazing most of the time for a Doom game. But, I really just don't like enemies placements and the way they are used. From my point of view, the devs who made this game are very good at what they do but clearly didn't understand how to use enemies properly to create interesting encounters on high difficulties. It wasn't developed directly by ID and it shows.
That said, there is a handful of maps that truely shines but those are the exception not the norm. Again, keep in mind my opinion is about the use of enemies and not the maps themselves.
So if story matters.. Doom - Doom 2 - Doom 64 - Doom 2016 - Doom Eternal.
Doom 3 really is just a spin of that was meant to be a reboot.. but it was actually a tech demo.
But Doom 3 takes place in Mars.. none of the other games do.
Right, I have forgotten about that fact.
Doom 1 was located at Deimos, Phobos and hell
Doom 2 was located on Earth and hell
Doom 64 was located at Phobos and hell
Doom 3 on Mars itself and hell
Doom16 an Deimos, Phobos and hell
DE on Earth an hell
Only D64 is taking place on Mars' surface
Doom16 is Mars and Hell. DE is Earth, Alien Planet(s), Phobos, Hell, and Upper Hell. Doom16 was also supposed to be a reboot given it's name was just DOOM. But fans being the spergs they were goaded id into amending it to be somewhat horridly linked to the originals (the originals almost nobody born in 2000 plays). Not that I don't mind the classic armors, sound pack, and easter eggs. I just don't think it's fitting with new Marvel style doom guy.
Thanks for clarification
