How do I unlock the mouse?
I need to unlock mouse look, it's currently stuck to one axis.

They removed a bunch of features from EX. Ability to change infinitely tall actors, autoaim, ability to jump (though that's a bit more understandable since it can break the intended progression in a few levels, even if it would still be nice as a 'fun' feature), no autosaves, no mouselook, among many other settings, although these are really the big ones that immediately come to mind.

It's not a feature in this version, only in Doom 64 EX.

That's dumb. It should be a feature in this version. Nightdive needs to add it ASAP!

DUDE are you for real ?? this is how the game was years ago, its ment to be enjoyed like in old school days!!
i played 30 mins then closed the game only to realize u have to manually save it and load the next time, its exactly how games used to be and its amazing to experience it now.
you actually have passwords for levels if u want to skip straight to a specific level!
its perfect in my view

Who cares. Quality of life options are important.

Imagine bashing someone for wanting options, keyword there, that were previously available. Nobody is trying to change your gameplay experience.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Every official release of the original games is like this, the only time freelook (among other "features") is enabled is when playing through third party ports (Ex would still be considered 3rd party despite being worked on by some of the same people). I fully expected this to be locked, I'm not saying I wanted it to be, but I can understand why and am completely fine with that. When you buy a Doom game, you buy the vanilla experience, you need to seek mods or other ports if you want more than that.

Imagine complaining about a feature that was never intended, next thing you know people will complain because you can't jump and break the game... smh

Y'know, this game was meant to be played with a joystick, where pushing up and down moved you whiled left and right turned the camera like tank controls, at 30 fps no less. Even if it was a PC game, you'd be using the arrow keys to move and the mouse would work much of the same way as the joystick. But, oh wait, you're totally ignoring those things for the sake of making a bad faith argument for optional features that wouldn't affect the way YOU play at all. Shoo with your trite garbage. Let people play the way they want.

You also forgot this is supposed to be played with Autoaim always on, which is irritating.

People forget that disabling autoaim + proper mouse look means you actually have to aim the damn hitscan guns.

Or as if mouselook really makes the game easier all, autoaim or not. Jumping is another thing entirely since it can break level progression, but even then it's not like it's affecting the purist experience if you just leave the damn option off. I bought the N64 game a few years back before trying EX and played the original Doom games on DOSbox, GZ Doom, and even tried Brutal Doom. I just think people should have the option to play as they please, but there's these bad faith purists who act like you insulted their entire lineage if the option even exists in their game. Everything has to be restricted to their playstyle or it's a garbage game (despite the fact that a lot of these same 'purists' are play sourceports on previous games with higher framerates and whatnot).

No, not really. Doom 64 EX was a fan-developed remake of Doom 64 that was reverse-engineered using the Doom 2 engine. This is an actual official port using the source files. Nightdive are not obligated to add in features of a completely unrelated fan project. Frankly, I'm just happy to have some new levels they've added post-campaign. I'm sure there will be fan-made custom wads that will enable Y-axis movement and jumping and the like in the near-future.

This is not an actual port using the source files, this is an update to Doom 64 EX. The developer of EX, Samuel Villarreal, is now a developer at Nightdive and the lead developer on this project. This version of Doom 64 is the continuation to his project on the engine he developed, the KEX engine, not the modified idTech engine used for the original N64 version and PlayStation Doom.
