WN62 What's the point?
I have taken a lot of pride of going through each scenario and winning them. Finished all the Germans and now on to the American. While I have found some of the German ones to be quite challenging - there was always a good tactical solution. The beach landings are all about testing your luck and seeing how many people can actually make it to the beach alive. Not any or enough? - Start over till lady luck gets you what you need. Ridiculous for a scenario.

Just to clarified. What is ridiculous? The way the game models beach landings or the fact you can replay them until you win?

It all about sequence of movement for beach landings. Once you learn who to move when it gets easy. Pro Tip: The AI will shoot at the first thing that moves. Use Half Squads to draw fire and then run the rest of your guys up the beach. And remember there's nothing you can do about GUN RELOAD! I see that and go well ♥♥♥♥, guess I loose more half squads.

The ridiculous part is that you have to replay them and depend on luck. There is little strategy and tactics that need to be deployed. If you get enough squads to the beach, (I have tried 4 times and both tanks and all squads are dead and/or broken) then yes, use the standard tactics to attempt to move up and get the objectives. That said, this makes for a very poor scenario and hardly worth the time. I love a tough scenario that really makes you think about approach and sequence of events - this one falls into the "not worth the effort" category. I had family that died in the Dday landings. Between that, "the Longest Day" and "Saving Private Ryan" I dont need to be taught that the landings were a slaughter and were in jeopardy of failing. At this point, driving that lesson home is all this scenario is worth.

Your observations are true for just about every tactical war game that involves a contested beach landing. Many developers don't go there. CM never did. It's tough to design a realistic landing scenario at the tactical level since at the local level they are murderous. Operational and strategic war games have produced realistic landings that a player can deal with. However, these involve a lot of reinforcements that are outside the scope of a tactical game. In the case of SF, there is neither indirect fire or air support to help out. Since players sort of expect a beach landing scenario in a game the mirrors ASL, the designers tried as best they could.

I mean... I won this on my first try, despite bad luck. Both tanks went down in the water, but scraped by the win with infantry anyway with one turn to spare.

Even if I had lost, well... so what? If you don't like it, you can use the unlock button to skip it. I personally despise the escape scenarios and just skip over them for example, though other people seem to enjoy them.

You are correct. Better said than I did btw, and they were best left out in my opinion. I just ended up unlocking the rest (felt bad about that) but didnt want to waste my time on them

I really enjoyed both beach landing scenarios. WN70 is even tougher than WN62! But it is very satisfying to win them. I failed both first until I learned to move single units at a time. The single (half squad) units will draw the HMG fire (and get killed) while the rest run up to cover. Watch out for the reloads. In the beginning you need to deploy smoke for you tank boats every turn. That decreases the chance of them getting hit. If a tank survives to the shore, you can try to hit the bunkers with the main gun, or use smoke again while running a TNT or a flame thrower squad up to the bunker. There is a lot of tactics involved! It is not only about the RNG.

Wow. What a bunch of complaints. I played this one during playtest and won it on my first playthrough (first attempt aborted on turn 2 because I didn't realize the LCIs bottomed out. There is an AAR that discusses my tactics and it really isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Just to make sure it hadn't been toughened for the production game, I tried it again this evening - turn 11 victory with 314 points 1:40 playing time.

Follow-up - The AAR I reverenced above is indeed in the AAR Report section here on steam. It's from September 29, 2022 titled "AAR - WN62". There are a lot of AARs there from the playtesters (and even more in the the Discord discussions). Many of them have detailed discussion of the tactics used in a specific scenario which may be helpful to those having problems getting past a specific scenario.

For those of you having trouble winning the WN62 scenario, here is a video tutorail explaining the basics to overcome the difficulties.
Have fun!
