Want To Play A Game Closer to SL / ASL ?
Try "Lock n Load Tactical Digital". Way more true to the original tactical WW2 game.

Just as an aside, LnLTD actually gives you a full report on the total dice rolls for the entire scenario. So no hiding the A.I. behind rigged RNG rolls.

I disagree. LnLTD is not closer to SL/ASL . Nothing will ever compare to ASL, but I love playing SF.

AI sucks in LnLTD

I have tried LNL digital and I thought it was dull. This game definitely captures the ASL feel for me., where LNL --- don't know felt very blah to me. But to each his own.

To get closer to ASL than SF, you'd probably have to go play ASL... :-)

SF, while different than ASL, is as close as you will likely see for a long time...

I enjoy LnL Digital, I even still play the older Heroes of Stalingrad (modified to look like Combat Commander) and it's a fun and exciting system but SF is a different system and I would never stack them against one another, I just enjoy them both for what they are.

Compared to the prices of current board games you can collect and enjoy all of the computer tactical wargames from the last few years, no need to limit yourself to just one.

Think the AI , especially on the attack is quite bad. Also, the controls just dont work for me in LnLTD , for some reason I always unselect units I want to select or something.

How can you even say this? LOL

That's wrong, but the thing I really miss in SF is to see the dice roll indeed

LnL is a good game in its own right, but is nothing like ASL or SF. You do LnL a serious injustice trolling around the SF forums just to stir crap up. It reflects badly on the LnL community.

One has rules pulled almost word for word from Advanced Squad Leader. The other is Lock N Load.

I got to collecting most of the LnL-TD DLC, and the scenario editor/generator is quite good. But I've found it cumbersome to play SP, and nearly impossible to play smoothly online (could just be me)>

Now, here's a question from an experienced ASL player, who I am not:

Did the dev go too far with the ASL model, while not fully making use of the computing power of the modern PC?

For example, not empowering the game to show step-by-step unit casualty counts, etc.?

Lock and Load with the impulse movement is terrible. You have only so many actions. Some troops just sit there the whole battle. I did enjoy landing my glider on a bunker in the Pegasus bridge scenario tho.

Okay, I am not going to hijack this thread with LnL discussion. But, thank you, I thought I was the only one who had troops sitting there the whole battle that never got to move or fire. Still, not saying it's a bad game. But I've got more than $140 invested...

Now this one, even an idiot like myself can play out-of-the-box with a very smooth UI, never looking at the manual. Having a great time just fiddling with it so far. And the list price is very, very low for what one can do with just the base game and editors.

Why would you think you are hijacking a thread that is actually about LnL? The whole point of the impulse system is the fact not all troops get activated every turn. A relatively common approach in boardgaming. It's an abstraction of leadership, command cycle capacity, communications capacity. Is it perfect, no. But its an attempt at somewhat limiting the god-like player. Its a little more nuanced than ASL and SF in making you prioritize you command capacity vs the unlimited capacity of an ASL player. IOW, its a feature some people like and why they play LnL.

The other aspect of the impulse system is breaking up the "all side's unit move" back and forth from ASL. Again, is it perfect? No. Its just different. It again forces a different leadership style to prioritize your unit's actions.
