should have known codemasters couldnt even get a 2 buck game right...
Here is what was done(vista64):
-opened steam app directory from program files, found the game. Located two exe files. One soldiers.exe and another testapp.exe.
-first tried everything with the soldiers.exe. Tried to run in compatibility mode for XP(pack2), 2000, even 98. No result.
-on the bottom of window options windows made sure to try to set "settings for all users as well as for myself" Still see the error message.
-Tried each compatibility mode when trying to open from inside the Steam window. Error again.
Please, if anyone has any solutions let us know. I do realize it is $1.69 when I bought it. But its just a matter of principle. Steam or Codemasters, someone has to take some responsibility and if not return give us store credit, at least give a working solution. If you knew it was a buggy old game, then you shouldn't have put it on sale, or sell it at all.
Don't touch the testapp.exe - it is game spy arcade.
Apply win 2000 compatibility mode to soldiers.exe and voila - this is the only thing I did. Game will start, Game spy will start - cancel it, then actual game will resume.
Must say, I'd like to know how this game was perceived when it was released. It seems to be fun visually, but extremely cumbersome to control and get the soldiers or tanks to do what you want them to do.
Another issue, which I've seen before in old games running on newer com
Yura i played this on release an loved it. IT basically the engine that thae Men of War series evolved but is more focused on smaller missions and more micro managment. And its Dang Hard.
Rebinding keys is highly recomended. The default are sorta unusable.
Had some of the best co op games with this little title. Stealth and teamwork being essential.
Plus so many options for destruction, for eg. 1st USA mission the guy in the wheat field has a box of matches - i wonder how that could come in handy vs those aproachin germans.....
