Fix for "Texture or surface size is too big"

Dear Steam community,

16 years after the game released and no fix from Steam in sight, I decided to invest the time and create a hack for this stupid error, that pops up when you try to launch the game on anything higher than 1080p.

Today I am happy to announce that my patch is published, it includes following features:

• remove 1080p resolution limit (new limit is now 4096px)
  
• increase FOV and camera zoom height for anything higher than 16:9
  
• increase maximum camera zoom
  
• increase minimum and maximum camera zoom step
  
• fixes for ultrawide resolutions like 3440x1440

EDIT: I have tested this on Windows 10 + Nvidia GPU. On any other setup YMMV.

Awesome thanks for the fix! Have been enjoying the game at 1440p.

Just wondering is there anyway I can retrofit this fix for the "spin off" Silent Heroes?

I tried the files and settings for Soldiers with Silent but still get the texture size too big error.

You sadly cannot reuse this fix for other games, you will need to adapt / modify it to make it work on anything other than Soldiers.

If you know c++ programming, I have published the source code of this fix on GitHub.

EDIT: If I can get my hands on Silent Heroes, I might take a look at it, because I do not have this game right now.

For me resolution is stuck max at 1024x768. RX 6800XT, 2560 x 1440 display, fix and compatibilities applied, config file edited, commandline params added - nothing work. Also textures highest setting is medium. I would be happy with at least 1920x1080, and that resolution is placed in commandline + config file.

Got a fix, and its working - its AMD RSR.
To get it working, go to adrenalin settings > games > Soldiers > Radeon Super Resolution > follow steps on screen, set 1920 x 1080. Hope this helps for future AMD users. It also unlocked better shadows and high textures (previously unavailable).

My fix only works for Nvidia and Intel GPUs.

Some AMD GPUs work but most of them don't, don't ask me why as I don't know why and I cannot test it, because I don't have one.

RSR is not really a solution, because it runs the game at 1080p (which the game supports without any hacks) and upscales to 1440p.

Thanks for the patch. Downloaded the zip but there is somethign wrong with one of the files. Cant copy or move it once unzipped.

Hey man, thanks for the fix. Been wanting to try this game for a few years now.

I have one issue though, I have 2 4k monitors and both are set to 3840x2160 native, and when I start the game it takes up all of one of my monitors and half of the other, making it basically unplayable.

Is there any settings I can add to make it work on just one of my monitors?
