Mini & Max - water bear still missing

Prior to the most recent patch, an amoeba ate my water bear (I thought he would spit blocks and damage the water bear so I unwisely took them to meet each other). I was hoping the eaten water bear would return after this patch but he's still gone so I still can't finish the quest. I tried talking to the Mayor again and revisiting the area but still no water bear to be seen.
