Mortol & similar
Although Mortol is frustratingly difficult at times, there is something brilliant about the design and even using your corpses to make progress! So
1. Is this based on some other game before it?
2. How do the sequels in this package compare in difficulty and fun?

The sequel has a slightly different vibe but the main sacrificing gameplay is still there. I think it's as fun as the first, though probably a bit harder.

I think it's vaguely based on Lemmings series. Sometimes you have to sacrifice some of your Lemmings to beat the level. But it plays differently in a sense you don't have direct control over characters.

I'd say Mortol has quite unique gameplay overall.

Yeah, I'd say it's inspired by lemings.

Just like many other titles in the catalogue, you wonder how someone evens come up with a concept like this, its just so creative. Then you see how they build on it in the sequel, just awesome.

The other day my friend asked if there was a lemmings like game, and I pointed him to this so i agree with the other commenters.

At first I thought Lemmings?! What! But there is some similarity if you think of it as controlling one lemming at a time and then having familiar options to make a blocker or blow up. However it really is very different being a platformer, strategy mix where getting one person to the end is the requirement

Life Goes On: Done to Death, Super Rude Bear Resurrection, and Lab Rags all have similar concepts (puzzle platformers where you use corpses to progress). I would've sworn that there was a late 2000s/early 2010s flash game that had a similar mechanic, but I couldn't find it.

I thought Mortol 2 was about the same amount of fun. They took the same concept and roughly the same gameplay but made it feel quite different.

You can check Life goes on

Pretty similar mechanics, but without a body count limit and a bigger emphasis on puzzles

There was also a XBLA game with cute critters that used the same mechanic as well, but I don't remember the name

I thought of SeppuKuties, which is a game I played on Kongregate.
possessedCow 2024 年 10 月 11 日 上午 9:36
Ah, yeah, SeppuKuties was the one I was thinking of. It lines up a lot more than I remembered, what with having a fixed amount of lives to beat it.

It's definitely gotta be lemmings, as everyone else is saying.

Specifically, it feels like Lemmings 2. That game specifically has the mechanic where the number of lemmings you save at the end of a level is your starting total for the next, and you can replay previous levels to get more lemmings through.

To me, Mortol and Camouflage are favorite games (on par) of the list. I haven't finished Mortol yet but I was so pleasantly surprised when I replayed the first level out of curiosity and the game adjusted the number of people up because I did a better score !! It's so clever to reward the player like that. It's really a game of its own genre, Lemmings-like but with unique gameplay and both games are fun in a different way. I prefer Mortol than Lemmings though :Krotchy: :arty_hand:

Also Mr. Bree+ uses the concept of your own corpse as platforms to further move on. Though you don't get to transform and thus have different ways to leave it to help.

Also, as many have said Lemmings, the lives transferring over from level to level gave me hard Lemmings 3 vibes.
fakename 2024 年 10 月 12 日 下午 3:22
Lemmings gameplay is completely different. There's a game inspired by Lemmings from a few years back called Moons of Darsalon.
Foamed 2024 年 10 月 13 日 下午 12:18
The game is obviously heavily inspired by Lemmings but also games such as Life Goes On, Benefactor, and Fury of the Furries: https://store.steampowered.com/app/250050/Life_Goes_On_Done_to_Death/

And here's a free and really good open source clone of Lemmings for those interested:
